So much talent! Thanks everyone for your ideas. Lynette, I think you might be right about the spontaneity bit. Not so easy to be spontaneous out here though.

Are you in my head?? I read this thinking it sounds just like me, then I read all the comments and thought how lucky some of these people are with all these things they do. I never seem to stick at anything, I don't have friends here to do things with, maybe it's because the things I love are things that I'm not very good at (I know that no one except the shower head needs to hear me singing lol) I would love to hear what you come up with.....I have knitting stuff here but no one to knit with or to make it interesting, maybe it's just persistance that is needed (I did make a dish cloth that works fabulous) I do read lots....does that count as something to do??? The library knows me well.

I often wish I didn't have so many hobbies - scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, jigsaws, reading, (I used to write), planning my next vacation, photography, sewing. I spend a lot of time online reading my fav. blogs (and lately watching youtube video - many of which inspire me in on a daily basis. I'm actually at a very happy place right now and i'm not even doing many of my hobbies. I suggest making a list of anything that sounds interesting, then put it in order and start at the top. I'd love to learn jewellery making- but I am NOT taking up any more hobbies. Can't wait to hear what you decide on.

I don't have a crafty bone in my body, but did take up knitting for charity. My mum used to get her friends - and me - to knit long scarves (she gave us the wool thickness and number of rows to do that each scarf was the same). She'd then gather them up and sew them into blankets. I've used up all my wool and am in the middle of moving to Switzerland, but loved doing that brainless knitting (ie no fancy stitches) in front of the TV, long car trips etc.

I also have a camera in my handbag with me. Others might have a good mobile phone that takes photos because often you'll see something quirky that might spark a blog or a funny conversation or an idea.

Last August I discovered geocaching & that's my main hobby these days. Sometimes it's just fun, sometimes it's an intellectual exercise (solving the puzzle caches) & sometimes it's a physical challenge. The main website is www.geocaching.com, it has a pretty good explanation of what the game is.

But basically, someone hides a container somewhere & publishes the coordinates of the hide location on the website. The rest of us then try to find the container using a GPS, sign the log when we locate it, rehide it & log our find on the website.

I've described a few of my recent caching trips on my blog recently if you want to look at them (http://myunfinishedbusiness.blogspot.com/search/label/geocaching)

I like to do embroidery... (bodgey eyesight has put paid to that - I need so much light and I have to have my glasses on, and eh, getting too hard)

I like to stalk dead people - sounds much more excitement than family history; and hey cemetaries are pretty cool.

I taught myself to crochet a couple of winters ago - that was fun

Plus, I read a lot - and the more I read, the more interested I am in writing!

Oh, and cooking and eating as well!

I'm a scrapbooker and a card maker. For me scrapbooking is about telling the story as well as the photos. For me getting together with a group of ladies and scrapping together is fun and theraputic. I hope you find something that is the same for you.

I've been looking for a hobby too & so have started learning to stitch. I don't have a lot of time, so it doesn't happen much. But I enjoy just sitting by myself & doing it. But then I adore reading, and would love to have hours to sit around with a good book.

Don't worry about looking for a hobby - be open to try new things & the right thing will find you.

Think you may be needing some spontaneity....... I know I do.. like spontaneously sms'g some local friends to see if they want to go walking together, coffeeing together, sharing a girly flick, having a games day, going to the "local" bowling , just impromptu... is sometimes enough to get out of the rut and reconnect...... and dont forget that laughter is cheap healthy medicine.
cant wait to hear what others say!!
PS YOu shouldnt stop blogging.. we all love your realness!
