Back To School

Everyone seems to be commenting on how fast these School Holidays have gone.  I think having Easter in the middle of the holidays was one factor.

Then again, I’m not sure I ever find 2 weeks enough.

When the kids were smaller, I used to hang out for school to go back.

When you’re in a blur of babies, toddlers and preschoolers or junior primary kids, school holidays can be kind of hard work.

But now that my kids are older, holidays are so much easier.

I love the relaxed pace, no lunch boxes, not trying to catch the bus or having to help with homework at the same time as getting the evening meal.

I love that we can take off for a days shopping or the movies.

Or go camping as a family.

I love spending quantity time with my kids.

I love that the kids can help out around the farm and learn valuable life-skills that will make them more employable as adults (and they’re lucky their dad is very generous and pays them for their help).

I will admit though that I also enjoy having days home alone.

With time to potter around and put things back into place (and having them stay there longer than 5 minutes).

My kids are easing me back into a life of “solitude” though.

Only 2 of the 3 made it to school this morning. :)

Solitude.. what’s that? This morning I gave a sigh of relief when I sent my two off… until I got an SMS from young one saying he felt bad and was in the SSO.. just great.. … should I ring the school? should i leave it? mmm.. then just as I started to relax the phone rang.. yes young man was not well and I should collect him.. so I have just spent 2 hours in the car collecting him.. he slept all the way home and looks very pale.. and is resting on the lounge!!
So guess its still solitude just in a new form. I am still being taught flexibility and am yet to be perfected!!
Guess i should be thankful I had the day off today and could be there for him.. :)
Motherhood is full of challenges and blessings .. maybe i need to focus on the latter a whole lot more..

Ps hope your child at home is feeling better soon too.

Funny how the first day back can often be chaotic in one way or another. I have one home that often that I honestly don’t know how working mothers manage.

I always loved the slower holiday pace, but then school time wasn’t so bad either. The kids didn’t seem to need help with homework unless they had to read to someone and get that ticked off the list. I found it helped to have them do their homework after dinner while there wasn’t anyhting on TV that they’d be wanting to watch and it was dark outside so the couldn’t play.
