Why Do Summer Holidays Always Go So Quickly?

There’s only a few days now until the Summer holidays are over for another year.

I need another 2-3 weeks at LEAST!

They just go so quickly and I always have grand plans for what we’ll achieve.

Only to find we run out of time.

Year after year after year.

I think it would be good if we had a 3 month break like the US and the UK seem to (don’t quote me on the exact length of their break, I’m not really sure but it always seems longer than ours).

This years holidays, while being a week longer than some we’ve had, seem to have gone even quicker than usual.

I think between harvest running late and me being in bed for nearly 3 weeks, it’s been doubly hard to fit in the “fun and relaxing” stuff we’d like to.

Not to mention the fact that we did 2 weeks of swimming lessons this year instead of the normal 1 week.

It’s been great though (if you don’t count me being ill).

The kids have been getting along really well.

We’ve had some quality time with pretty much all of our extended family (and with 3 siblings each for Farmboy and I, that’s a few people to catch up with - we have missed seeing my youngest brother and his wife but they’re the only ones).

The kids have had a ball with their cousins (Christmas with my side and New Year with Farmboy’s side).

And we’ve just spent 5 nights away at our nearest beach (about half an hours drive) having some quality family time.  Lots of fishing, cycling, swimming and generally “hanging out” together.  With Lleyton starting high school this year, we’re aware that we need to take advantage of these years.

It was a fitting “end” to the summer holidays.

How many weeks until the next lot?

Love Chunks has taken five weeks off and so the three of us have really had a relaxing, fun time together. We’re aware that, at eleven, Sapphire is growing quickly and the opportunities to hang around with each other before the terrible teens kick in and we’re deemed too uncool is just around the corner. It’s been brilliant and I’ll miss her terribly when she goes back to school next week. I’ll miss LC too - it’s been nice having leisurely breakfasts together instead of knowing that he’s long-departed for work by the time I’m awake.

When I was a kid summer holidays went on FOREVER. Now people say did you have a nice holiday? and I say what holiday? Because I only take off a few days a few times a year.
Sorry to hear you’ve been ill, but your 5 day beach break sounds like it was terrific fun.

Well I can tell its time for school to go back… son #1 and I are nearly enemies and the weather is going to be HOT next week here.. today back at work i realised that its a strange time for me.. since #2 son (and my baby) is off to high school next week even though its year 7… i will no longer be able to have those after school chats with other school mums as in the last 11 years of primary school days.. makes me sad.. i will need to make more effort to catch up… but its also part of my dear sons growing up but also a change in lifestyle for me at the same time.. really not too hard.. but will take adjusting to. Guess it will really let me know who my real soul mates are and arent!!!

Alas the 2011 school year is about to start.. and we shall see how they go in term one when the reports arrive!!! AM not holding my breathe though!!! We can pray though for these kiddies… the ones easy to love and the ones harder to love.. that they find their passion and follow their dreams!!

PErhaps next week we may get some ME time .. Alleluia!!

lol! My almost 17 yo is complaining that the holidays have been tooooooo long. But she finished at the beginning of December last year and still has another week or so before she starts back. Me? I think they’ve been just right :)
