Insomnia

It’s 1am and I’m awake.

*sigh*

I’ve been doing so well with my sleeping patterns too.

*sigh*

Not sure if it’s because I went out to a meeting tonight (which I enjoyed but stimulated my brain PLUS being around people always mucks up my serotonin levels which are related to melatonin levels - even when I enjoy myself!  Go figure!).

Or, if it’s because I forgot my meds today and have taken them tonight (and they stimulate me a little too).

I’ve tried milk.

I’ve tried melatonin.

Now I’m just passing the time on the computer (exactly what they tell you NOT to do for insomnia).

So, what do you do when you just can’t sleep?

You didn’t mention the meds when we were chatting, I would put my money on that been the main culprit, just added to the meeting “stuff”. I lay down on lounge and either; read a book (just a junky no brainer romance stuff) using book light, tv on just above silent but find the most boring thing on there to watch so no stimulation happening or put radio on cd on to play very quietly. I make sure I’m “just right” as in not to cold or hot but stay laying down, tucked in on my side just resting.

I think they did contribute but I was already having trouble sleeping before I took them (which means my insomnia did save me missing a dose which can have worse effects than the insomnia itself).

Didn’t sleep in either. So less than 5 hours sleep last night. *sigh* I used to be able to survive on that but not so much anymore. :)

A hot bath does it for me but that would wake the family in the middle of the night…

It’s rare for me not to be able to sleep. when I am wide awake at the wrong time, I get a hot milo drink and snuggle back into bed with lots of pillows and that really boring book that I just can’t read because it’s so boring. Of course that doesn’t work so, I toss the book in favour of that other one where I can’t wait to see what goes on in the next chapter. I’m still not getting sleepy by this method, but at least I’m not tossing and turning wondering why the heck I’m not asleep.

If you figure it out can you let me know? This is by far my biggest struggle of late. Sigh.

I can usually sleep. If I can’t it is generally because something has scared me or I have too much going on in my brain. So I generally listen to ABC local radio in the dark, or read for a little while. I also try to empty my brain & think of nothing but the radio or similar. Seems to work for me - I had to do this when A was a baby as I could never get back to sleep after getting up to feed and emptying everything out solved alot of problems.

You may laugh at me and i am not into astrology but i have trouble sleeping around the time of full moons… and wonder if my monthly visitor (LOL unwanted) is also based around this!!

Sometimes i just toss and turn and in the morning , wish i had made myself get up and do some ironing or something!!! Anything!!

If i do get up i find my dressing gown, which makes me feel sleepy , a pen and paper and just write.. and write until i cant write anymore..and go back to bed.

Sometimes i even wake dear hubby and ask for a back rub/massage which is sure to make me snore! That is only if i am really desperate and selfish!

If all else fails, and it sounds ridiculous, i get back into bed, throw the covers off till i start to feel cold and then throw them back on and snuggle in and zzzzzz for a little more!

A really weird thing my mum taught me to do and it works.. was to give a big smiley grin and say goodnight to God.. !!!

I know i have weird hints but hey anything is worth a try too!

Lynette - I think what you said makes a lot of sense. A lot of people find their bodies react to the changing phases of the moon.
