Smiley Saturday: A Fun Shopping Day

Smiley Saturday

Yesterday Farmboy and I took off to do some Christmas Shopping.  The closest regional centre is a little over an hour and a half away (in either direction) and with harvest coming up on us so quickly, we hadn’t had a chance to do much Christmas shopping.

The kids finish school next week (and it’s a busy week too) so we decided it best to hurry up and go while we still could.

We had a lovely day out together which included a nice “date lunch” at the marina.

As a bonus, I got to see my niece and nephew who we haven’t seen since the June long weekend (due to being away on our trip and then a series of illnesses that have kept us from going for a visit).  My niece has gone from a newborn to a 6-month old.  I got to have a lovely cuddle!!!!  :)

The shopping expedition was quite successful.  Farmboy and I found what we had decided to buy each other for Christmas.  And they were cheaper than we were expecting to pay (probably not the highest quality BUT this way we can see how much we use them and if they don’t last due to lots of use, can buy better next time).

I’m going to keep you guessing on what they are but mine is pink!!!!  (Farmboys isn’t ROFLOL).

I had to concede defeat and purchase Singstar Princesses hearts desire without getting a bargain.  Only 1 store had them and while they were supposedly on “special”, the special price was full price at other stores.  It was either pay that price or risk not being able to get it.

Next step will be to get everything out and work out exactly where I’m up to.  I know I need 1 thing for Trailer Boy and a beach towel for Singstar Princess (hers got damaged while we were away).

I still have extended family gifts to buy but I knew I could do those when the kids are with us in just over a weeks time (I have an appointment so knew we would be back).

We did buy 1 impulse purchase.  That happens to me most years.  We have everything worked out and then add on another little gift.  It’s something the whole family will enjoy though.  :)

I just CAN’T WAIT until Christmas now.  It’s my favourite time of the year!!!!  :)

How is your Christmas shopping going?  Is it making you smile or making you frustrated????

I have two boys with birthdays within a month of Christmas… one with 4 days, poor boy! Luckily all of my boys are into music, so this year I bought David2 a keyboard good enough that he can go gigging with, Tom1 I gave $1000 to put towards a guitar , (He’ s turning 18 in January so it’s cheaper than a party), Ryan3 gets a top quality guitar amp and I think I’ll get the 13 year old ‘baby’ a Wii guitar band set. AS they get older the gifts get fewer but they get more pricey. But, like yours, they’re things that the boys will use for years.

Most of my christmas shopping is done thank goodness, just have to get some prepaid mobile phone recharges for the teenagers. I had enough saved to cover that, but had to use it this morning to recharge my internet. Still a couple of weeks yet though, so I’m good there. BUT. Straight after christmas ther’s 3 January birthdays, 3 February birthdays, 4 March birthdays and so on until September, when I get a bit of a break before the November birthdays….Serves me right I suppose, for having so many kids, who’ve now produced several grandkids…..

Glad you are on track with your shopping.

We aren’t going too badly with ours, one child to still make main present purchase for, but we know what so it’s all good.

Frogdancer - my kids birthdays are all within a month of Christmas too. I even tried NOT to let that happen but my body had other ideas!!!! Sheesh, I’m not looking forward to the days of spending that much on kids presents!!!! They’re good investments though aren’t they?

Joyce - you sound very organised! :) No, the pink item isn’t a laptop. I knew this was what we were buying this year hence the reason I knew I couldn’t “really” ask Santa for a laptop (not that it’s anywhere NEAR our budget for gifts anyway!!!! LOL). Enjoy your time with your sister.

River - I think my mother in law is feeling the same way this year. She had 4 kids. Now all are married and then this year she’ll have 10 grandkids as well (assuming the twins make it before Christmas - but no doubt we’ll have all shopped for them anyway).

Mistress B - we have 1 “main” present to buy too but haven’t decided exactly what yet. I got everything out yesterday and have more than I thought (how unusual). Even have less niece and nephew presents to buy than I thought.
