Lynne - It usually starts to get cold here around April/May but only a few parts of Australia have the extreme winter weather (like snow). June/July/August are our "official' winter months and still tend to be the coldest but our weather these days seems to fluctuate quite a bit more than I ever remember it doing when I was a kid.

Being from USA It seems like you have a really short winter season. Is it just a few weeks in Sept-Oct? Our winters here are for a few months like Nov - March. I vote for just a few weeks of cold and then mild spring fall like weather and leave all the 100 degrees and up for some one else.

During our summer May thru Oct I try to stay in the a/c until about 7pm and then try to get everything outside done before dark.

I think today our high is going to be about 78 degree farenheit. I will wish a cool breeze for all of you down there.

Do what I can earlier in the day. Collapse in a puddle for the rest of the day or go visit friends and family with A/C

I cope with the heat by doing as little as possible. I ignore the big jobs, (I can live with dust and mess, if I have to), just going to work, the predawn walk there isn't too bad, coming home before lunch to a cold shower, well, warm shower since the sun has heated the water in the pipes, then lie on the bed for around three hours, get the computer going, turn on the fan and sit there until L announces he's starving and what's for dinner? He won't eat salad, so has to cook something for himself, but won't make a decision until I've gone through the entire freezer for him. Luckily for me, the kids are grown and living away so I don't have to cope with them as well. I spend quite a bit of time thinking about the South Pole..........

I don't tend to change too much, but I do change the way I do laundry. In winter I put a load on at night, on timer, so that it is finished washing before we all hit the showers, then I can hang it out as soon as the kids are at school and bring it in when they get home, then they can put their clothes away straight away (thats the theory anyway). I summer I reverse it, so I put the load on earlier (before teatime) and then hang it out overnight. I take it off as soon as the kids go to school before it gets too hot and put it away myself (we go to the pool most days after school) - it works perfectly in theory....

I try to do little bits throughout the day - like putting things away, filing etc. Little jobs that don't take long and breaks in between. And save the bigger jobs for earlier in the morning / later in the evening.

I tend to spread the jobs out over the day between sewing on the really hot days. Starting to wash late arvos and hanging out over night. We have the start of a Nov heatwave here in Adelaide....... I so miss winter.
