3 Weeks to Go
Time is flying by so fast that I’m starting to feel a little nervous.
I had these Grandiose visions of leaving our house all “Martha Stewart Esque”
Hmmm…..
NOT going to happen.
I tend to do this.
The longer we’re going to be away, the more important it is to me to have the house “perfect” or at least close to it.
So, naturally, being away for 3 months means the house needs to be freshly painted, scrubbed from top to bottom and all the cupboards decluttered and in perfect order.
Idiot!
No wonder I often go away exhausted.
I’ve spent the last 6 weeks working my way through decluttering various areas of the house. And it is helping. Although, for the most part, the house looks similar to what it did before. Kind of “lived in”. Hard to avoid that look when you actually live here! I know some people manage to but I’m not one of them.
So I’m choosing to lower my standards of perfection (which I never meet anyway) in favour of not being a crazed, exhausted, stressed out excuse for a human being by the time we leave.
Instead, I’ll be using the next 3 weeks to focus on preparations for the trip and enjoying the anticipation.
No matter what I do, I expect the last few days will be a little on the frantic side with last minute packing, cleaning and tidying (I still want to leave the place reasonable for those staying here in our absence).
So, this week I’m focusing on schoolwork and food.
I’ve sent a letter to each of our children’s teachers and finished off some ideas I have for them to look at.
Next task will be to get on with the recipe cards I was planning to do a looonnngggg time ago.
Will review what’s next when next week arrives.

I’m saying yes to letting perfection go.
In news you might be interested in, Aldi are putting two dollar meal deals on the back of their catalogues recently. I have tried several of these recipes already and I have to say they are awesome.

I am now shopping for 2 weeks at a time, and our last bill was less than it used to cost us for *one* week when we were shopping at Woolworths.
Unfortunately the last Aldi as you go up to North Queensland is in Gympie (other than Bundaberg, but we weren’t going there) - we had an excellent plan for cheap meals on our holiday but due to the lack of Aldi it didn’t work out as we planned.
I’m really looking forward to shopping at Aldi. I should have a look at where their stores are located. Wonder if Dubbo has one - that’s my first Saturday and therefore first official “shop” for the trip. Thanks for that link. Perfect as I’m just working on my recipes.
Sounds like a good plan. My parents set off today for their 9 week trip around Australia and I know she’s spent the last few weeks cleaning her home from top to bottom (and everything in between) partly because a friend is coming to stay. Having said that, her house is always clean and tidy. I had to laugh the other weekend when she was looking after our dogs and she asked me to cook the food in advance. I didn’t know why. It was because she had already cleaned and polished all her pots :-). You definitely don’t want to to start your trip all stressed - won’t be good for anyone. If you can leave it better than you normally do than that’s something achieved.

I think I’ve achieved something huge if I manage to do the dishes! I’m terrible for leaving the house in a mess and worrying about it when I get home. Doesn’t make for a great homecoming!
Are you going to the Western Plain Zoo in Dubbo? We did an early morning tour which meant the kids got to feed a giraffe, pat a rhino, etc. It was good but it meant we were already tired of walking before we even started the actual looking around the zoo!
You can drive around and look but we hired bikes, much more fun!
How are you feeling after your debut in centre? You did a fantastic job. Really proud of you.
Libby - I wish my house was always clean and tidy!!!!
Sharon - I’ve always pictured you as the mega organised type! Yes, we’re going to Western Plains Zoo. Not too sure about the early morning bit though!!!! LOL.
As for how I’m feeling after playing Centre - well, it wasn’t as bad as I expected although I don’t the other grade try all that hard at training (not when they play us anyway). I surprised myself because I was completely stuffed when we took the court and never in my wildest imaginations did I expect THAT to happen. LOL. But it was fun. I was SO tired and my legs just ached when I got home!!!! Talk about a full-on training!!!! Seem to have pulled up okay today though which is the main thing.
Good luck with all the cleaning. I need to do some decluttering myself too.
Planning Queen - it seems to be a never ending task doesn’t it?
