I think that is a hard age to pick designs for. They should probably survey the target audience to see what THEY would like to see on such things. But that might be too logical. ;)

Another site may be Officeworks but havent had a chance to look it up. Just because it may be called Contact does not mean its good. Generallly the best rolls are several metres and approx 90cm wide. Check the micron (thickness) firstand if its not on the packaging dont buy unless you want double trouble.

Am frying inside tonight in Adelaide south. Are you up in the farming country. I have also lost all my flowers etc! they look sad and rejected.

Library grade contact is definately the way to go. I have been lucky enough to pick some up from our school closing last year and it's the BEST STUFF. Surely it's available to the frustrated parents somewhere. I'm sure it's more expensive but so far this year I am having a bubble free zone.

As for designs...I'm hearin ya. Scott has just cut out pictures that he likes and covered the books with them, then I have come along with my trusty library grade contact and contacted over them. And no. I'm not sharing.

here here ....... after working in libraries for years....... I can vouch for good Contact......you may be able to order direct from the following links:
http://www.raeco.com.au/
http://www.frylibrary.com.au/
I recommend the 80-85 micron thickness, the 100 is far too stiff to manipulate!

OR
alternatively many now use the clear plastic covers and you can then print up or stick your own choice of pics onto the front cover and just slip the plastic over....... thats for A4 books only and it sure beats the bubble blues attacks............many of our teachers now supply their color coded subject front .

Funnily enough, i used to get calls from many school mums wanting my help! Cant call myself expert though, even I still get frustrated over the jolly stuff at times. THe best place to do covering is at the kitchen bench as its just the right height for me. More control!

have fun gals.

A friend of mine got me a roll of library grade contact. Best thing I ever did. If you know someone who works in a library get them to get you a roll. It makes book covering almost easy. And, it doesn't stick to itself all the time.

I so hear you!! We managed to find Harry Potter for DS9 and some motor bikes, but otherwise they are all too young. And what is the deal with all the Ben 10 contact always being gone???

We pick up book packs next Tuesday on the first day of school - so I will be madly covering next week.

I am so hearing you about the contact. I have found, however that it's one of those typical things....the more you pay, the better it seems to go on! In fact, I now go out of my way to purchase the more expensive contact cause the extra cost is just worth the fact that there are less hassles in putting it on.

And my 13 year old is dead against contact now cause apparently it is uncool when you are in high school! Lol! I had the same issues with him though regarding pictures, when he was in primary school. It works the opposite way though. I made a specific trek to Big W to find the High School Musical contact cause she insisted on it, only to find that it was all sold out! Now, if they know that HSM is the big thing, then why didn't they order in mega amounts of the stuff, rather than The Golden Compass which just sat on the shelves untouched!!! Grrrrr!

I agree wholeheartedly on the design options. Yuk, yuk, and more yuk. Years ago I found some contact in K-Mart, bigger rolls, not in the book cover section, cos those rolls are only about a metre long. Anyway, back to K-Mart, whatever section it was in, I found some contact with vegetables and herbs printed on it. Beautiful stuff. Used it to line the kitchen cabinets of the house I was living in at the time. Never seen anything like it since. Although I believe there are still those wood veneer designs available and other prints. From home decorating and paint stores. It's easier to work with than the flimsy book covering stuff, it comes in clear as well as plain colours and it's what I always used for my kids books. I think the options are 5 and 10 metre rolls. One roll does ALL the books per child, much more economical. Officeworks also has clear and coloured contact in 5 metre rolls. Probably too late now, but think about it for next year.
