Paving The Pergola
Many months ago we bought pavers to pave under the large carport we put up and make it into an outdoor entertaining area. They’ve been sitting on pallets, mocking Farmboy while he waited for the time to prepare the ground and lay them. Yes, like all good farmers, he prefers to do things himself rather than pay someone else to do it for him. Something I love about him because in the long run it does save us quite a bit of money.
He had begun work on preparing the area before harvest but some summer rains washed a heap of silt into the area.
Anyway, things are finally starting to take shape:
The plan is to enclose at least 2 sides of the “carport” to give more shelter from the wind and sun.
I love it when a project finally starts to come together. It’s amazing how you can feel like you’re not making much progress with “house projects” and then all of a sudden, a project comes together and you feel much better about things.
We still have a long way to go to get things how we want them outside (tennis wall, verandah and decking, games room, pool - maybe…..) but at least we’re starting to get there with a functional back yard. It’s quite a project when you’re starting from scratch.

Farmboy is quite the handyman, and cute to boot. The paving looks good. I like that you chose to put a pattern in it rather than just one colour blandness.
He is doing an amazing job. And I must agree with River, he is cute too!
You will really enjoy being out there, I can see many family gatherings under the pergola in your future
I love your paving, you will really enjoy sitting and entertaining out there. We do a lot of DIY projects too. We are now trying to make a new patio by making our own paving stones out of concrete with one of those molds that looke like bricks. Talk about hard work! We have a cement mixer and go to town with is every few months. Our patio is half complete and we hope to have it finished by summer this year. Too bad I am working today it’s 80 degrees outside. This weekend not getting out of the 40’s. Why can’t it be cold during the work week and then warm on the weekends?
Have a great evening, or morning or what time is it there? It is nearly quitting time here.
The paving looks great!!
It’s not easya nd at times disheartening when projects are moving slowly, but it’s amazing the difference that getting each thing finished can make.
Enjoy!!
That looks great! It’ll be so useful when it’s finished.
