No, it doesn't make you a bad mum. It makes you human, and in the long run, a better mum. Do you really want your kids learning that it's wrong to let anyone see that you're run down and need a break? No, you probably want them to learn that it's important to take care of themselves.

If you don't take care of yourself, you don't have anything left to give anyone else, and nobody wins. I learnt that one the hard way.

Perfectly normal babe.

Would you believe I have two teens who can't wait to go back to school? I can't beleive it, it's never happened before. They are SOOOO bored (they say, poor darlings).

I personally am thrilled to be having a public holiday to celebrate my Australian-ness. All public holidays are gratefully accepted in my life, to help maintain my sane-ness!

I've still got until the end of next week - for some reason private schools give much longer holidays (doh!). Stuffy Jr has been off since the start of December. We picked up his books and uniform today (they use a different uniform for prep), so I'll have to make a mess of them with contact sometime before next Friday.

You're not a bad mum - you just appreciate that you need to recharge and get things done without them there.

My kids (13 1/2 and nearly 15) go back on the 2nd and 3rd Feb (I get an extra week here in Vic) and I'm missing them this week a little - they're at their grandparents on the farm for a week, 4 hours away. BUT the hubby and I get to spend time together without wondering whether they will want us, and we can eat what WE like without having to wonder if they'll complain about it. YAY chick peas and kidney beans! (Mexican in other words).

I think by the time the 6 weeks of holidays are up the majority of mums are over it. Not a bad mum at all.

I can't believe your kids start Tuesday, here in NSW Tuesday is a pupil free/teacher preparation day and then older kids go back Wednesday and the new little ones don't start until Thurs or in my case Friday cause our school are stagger starting the kids over 2 days and my daughter got a spot on the second day. So she goes to school for a single day then has the weekend.

I think you are a normal mom. Most moms I know can't wait for their kids to go to school. I have one friend with 6 kids, when they started to move out and marry I asked her will you be sad? She said I have been waiting for this day for 20 years! She is so close to her kid its funny, she just doesn't want to live with them anymore. Her and her husband due to the economy here actually bout a smaller house with out bedrooms for all the kids. Don't ever think you are a bad mom. Everything I have read here states that you are a great mom and wonderful wife.

I came to your blog from frogdancer.

No, you're not a bad mom.

Even homeschooling parents need a break from their kids sometimes! But you know I feel guilty about it too. Yesterday, I had a few hours to myself to go shopping. I had a great time. But then I feel there's something wrong. If I love my child, why am I so happy to have this time to myself? Then I think....even when we love someone, we need time away from them. It's good for us. AND it's good for them.

I also think it's different when you have multiple children. I have a lot of time alone because Jack does a lot of stuff independently. I have a friend who homeschools three kids. I think she has very little time alone. If one doesn't need you, then another one does.

You're not a bad mum at all. Every mum I know feels this way. Including me. I couldn't wait for the holidays to be over every single year. My kids were worse. Those last few days before they could get away from me were just as hellish for them as it was for me.
