We camped almost beside a river. In the Northern Territory. Yes, there were crocodiles. Our toilet was called a bucket and it was emptied each morning. Re the 'what age to go to the toilet by themselves' - I was letting B (6) go by himself over our Xmas holiday because we were in 1 caravan park which is very family friendly and you could get a feel for the people there. I don't think I'd let him go by himself normally though. I struggle with this one too! It's so funny. I made the assumption that you've always been a farm girl. Born and raised on a farm....that kind of thing. I had no idea you were once a city girl. I can relate to some of your traveling fears. I worry about getting sick while in Australia. There's also the worry about an emergency back home--having to rush back.
