Smiley Saturday - Christmas Crazy

smiley-saturday-2.JPG

Farmboy, in an effort to cheer me up the other day, made a comment along the lines of “only 7 more sleeps to Christmas”.

You see, it’s common for me to get VERY excited as Christmas draws near. I’m a HUGE fan of Christmas.

I turned to him and said “shut up”.

He looked like I had slapped him in the face.

It was an unusual response for me and a bit of a wake up call that I had really lost my way in the true meaning and spirit of Christmas. Life has been too busy of late and that’s just not how I want to approach this very special time of year.

So, today I want to focus on some of the things about Christmas that make me smile.

Seeing our Santa up a Gum Tree every time we come home (and the toots from motorists when they drive past):

Santa Up a Gum Tree

Our imperfectly decorated Christmas Tree which reminds me that Christmas doesn’t need to be perfect in order to make people smile (and in fact, perhaps it’s better if it isn’t):

Decorated Tree With Presents

The fun of buying and wrapping gifts for others and the hope that what you give them will make them smile:

Gifts for Nieces and Nephews

Taking time out for family with a very simple Christmas fare:

Family Christmas Tradition

Our Sunday School nativity, reminding us of the true reason for the season:

My little Fairy in our local Christmas pageant (where the kids also got a small gift from Santa and the town put on a free movie):

Fairies Christmas Float

There are plenty of reasons to smile in this Christmas Season. I invite you to join me in reflecting on what has made you smile in the lead up to Christmas. It really makes a difference to take a moment from the hustle and bustle and appreciate all the wonderful things this season represents.

If you’re new to Smiley Saturday, please read my Smiley Saturday page before adding your link to the Mr Linky below. Anyone is welcome to join at anytime but please link directly to your Smiley Saturday post and not to your blogs homepage.

You might also enjoy browsing some of the Christmas Crazy posts linked at Magnetoboldtoo. I’m sure there’ll be quite a few smiles and laughs amongst those.

Happy Smiley Saturday! I hope you’re all able to find your smiles amongst the busy-ness and craziness of this festive season. Smile

    I love your Christmas tree!

I think we all lose the spirit of important things sometimes. I’m glad you found your way back.

Your christmas tree is beautiful. I love that you’ve wrapped all your gifts in the same paper. I do that too. At the after christmas sales I buy 20 metre rolls of wrapping paper for only $5 a roll, when the next christmas rolls around, it’s ready and waiting.

Love the pics. The farm near the inlaws place usually puts santa on a rusty old tractor at the gate - he looks suspiciously similar to your santa.

My daughter returned home from Australia on Wednesday so now we’re all ready to celebrate together. [she misses the parrots!] I’m not sure what you mean by ‘homepage’ as I don’t think I even have one of those.

Meanwhile, with the four December birthdays done and dusted I can’t wait to get started on my real preparations.

Best wishes and a few sleeps!

Your Christmas tree is beautiful, and the Santa in the tree hilarious !

Your Santa is the best, girl.

Makes me laugh every time I think of it. And I STILL remember last years!

I know this is un American, but I am jealous of your brown Christmas! White is so not necessary. I love your Santa in the tree.

I love your Santa in the tree, but as I will probably say on every Australian Christmas Crazy post I see today I just don’t think I could do Christmas in the summer, although I have a feeling we will try it at least once with the inlaws living there.

Dina - thanks. I’m really getting “into it” now that my presents are wrapped. :) Been working on some Christmas baking (and will do some more tomorrow).

River - I’m not sure I’ve seen 20m rolls but I do prefer the longer rolls - you seem to get so much more out of them. I usually have a “code” with my wrapping. One lot for nieces and nephews, one lot for Santa, one lot for gifts from us to our children etc - makes it easier come Christmas day to spot what is what.

Amanda - we had Santa on an old Bulldog tractor the first year we lived here - we try and do something different each year. :) It’s getting harder to think of ideas though!

Maddy - December birthdays make life complicated don’t they! LOL. Don’t stress too much about the homepage comment. It’s more for those who prefer to “link drop” when they’re not participating than those who are regulars. Your homepage is simply your blog URL rather than a link that goes directly to your post. I can help you with a direct link to your post if you would like but like I said, it’s not something regulars like yourself need to get too worried about. :)

Gattina - thank you. Sounds like you had a wonderful time away too! :)

Kelley - :) Thanks. We love him.

Marita - Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too.

    Julia - thanks.

Sharon - it’s about as Aussie as you get (actually last year with a can of cool drink in his hand was probably “more” Aussie). :) LOVE your website. Wish I was close enough to have a chocolate party!!!! I’m so JEALOUS! Don’t think we have anything quite like that here in Australia.

Secret Agent Mama - thank you and Merry Christmas to you too. :)

Shellie - Yeah, I’m quite partial to a Summer Christmas although it would be nice to experience a white one just once. :)

Emma - I imagine it is quite different to a winter christmas. It’s what we’re used to though so we quite like it. Like I said to Shellie, I’d love to experience a white christmas one day. You can eat more when it’s cold!!! LOL.

Susie - thank you. Glad it made you smile! :)

    Kel - thanks.

    I’m hearing you…

I’m not organised this year, and I’m not happy about it. I’m actually so disorganised that I thought I already commented this comment yesterday, but it would appear not.

I honestly don’t know if I’m coming or going at the moment.
