So Tired….
Remind me next year that I MUST be ready for Christmas by December 1st.
On November 30th I felt I was doing really well with how far along I was in my organisation for Christmas. Nearly a month to go and I was *almost* ready.
I’m not sure almost was quite enough!
December kicked in and I’ve yet to find time to draw a breath.
It doesn’t help that we added in a surprise 60th, a 5th birthday party, a wedding and a dinner for my MIL’s birthday in that insane final week of school (which was last week here).
I thought I’d be right if I managed to survive last week.
This week was “recover week” and a chance to catch up on some housework (run in and out for 9 days straight and the house is wrecked and in desperate need of a clean) and get presents wrapped, along with some Christmas baking with the kids.
No problem!
Or maybe…..
Turns out I’m out every day this week, I’m tired and still most of my presents need wrapping.
Talk about the silly season!!!!
Well, all I can do is take 1 day at a time and hope that I’m not frantically trying to wrap presents the night before we head away for Christmas.
I feel like I need a “to do” list but I’m too scared to write one in case it freaks me out how long it is.

(hugs) I feel the same - can I say ‘God help us’ !
Dear Lord, Please give Lightening “peace” at this time. Put a spring in her step and cover her in your hedge of protection (and secrecy) .Please give her the ability to get the things done she needs too and thru her to do and undone list.
Fill her with your strength so that she may get through each day, knowing You are there with her every step of the way. I pray for her comfort in knowing You are in control. Amen.
…. I’d better get back to doing whatever else I really should be doing
I am feeling the same and have gone into denial a bit. Hubby helped with Christmas cards last night so that lifted one load! Then I began my late spring clean and now feel completely overloaded so went and had a nap to avoid the real world staring at me wherever i go. My concentration has gone and I really dont want to see anyone because my brain is overloaded.
However, I am sure its not meant to be like this and we do need to guard ourselves from the enemy telling us we are behind, slack and useless,,,, because we arent its just that we ahve too much on our plate already adn he wants us to believe His lies.
Try to enjoy the moments you have with loved ones and remember how blessed you are that you have gifts to give which will get wrapped eventually. There are still many hours ahead!
Hang in there Lightening - you’ll make it!
So stop blogging and get to it! Heh. Start with the present wrapping, that’s the most important thing, then do the baking. Forget the house, with wonderful food and presents to unwrap, no-one will notice the odd dust bunny here and there.
{{hugs}} jodi - try to relax and take care of number 1 first! Write your list, prioritise and then take babysteps..
Trish - thank you, that was lovely.
Jason - thanks for the encouragement.
River - *gasp*. Did you just tell me not to breathe????? Oh, not to blog - same thing really!!!!
Kez - thanks. I do need to do that. It’s hard not to keep pushing until I collapse in a heap.
Maybe you could write a list but only put a few things on it, not all of them. Or as Kez said, write a list and prioritise everything on it. So, write the list and in another column next to it write when you are going to do it. So assign things to a particular day, so that you can avoid double-ups etc.
And if you are away for Christmas, then don’t worry too much about the house. Just make sure that it is clean enough so that you don’t get a huge fright when you walk back in. Get the silly season over and done with and then worry about the house.
And remember to look after you - that really is the most important thing. As wonderful as Christmas is, its only one day out of a whole year. Try and keep some perspective (which I know is hard) so that it doesn’t get blown out of proportion and become your reason for being in the next week or so.
“Wrapping presents”??
You’ve already bought your presents? Oh, the luxury of having done that already… you think YOU have problems, try not having bought the gifts yet
Richard - Dude, you’re giving us guys a bad name… at least I got my final present yesterday!
Maybe just put the big things on the list:
Wrap presents
Clean house
Prepare to go away
Oooh look - 3 things. Wrap a present, put something away/clean something, pack something.
Then have a rest.
theres a lot of stress involved with this ‘holiday’, ha.
it’ll be okay on the day!!
love your family meal idea, and great idea with the new ‘toy’ that allows them to be more of a help on the farm.
have a happy holiday season!!
Yep I know about that Christmas insanity. My parents are visiting and I feel the need to keep the house up to my mums standards of clean which are far higher than mine. So I’m going to bed late, getting up early and out most days. Feel I’m missing out on time with my girls because of it. Not fun.
