The First Time
I caught site of this somewhere around the blogosphere and thought it looked like fun.
1. Who was your FIRST prom date?
We don’t really have prom’s here but the school I went to did have a Senior Ball in year 11 and 12. I went with a guy named Andrew in year 11. The guy I wanted to go with was in a dilemma because another girl had asked him (and he didn’t want to be rude to her) so I magnanimously told him it was okay with me if he went with her. BIG mistake as I nearly didn’t end up with a date. But it worked out in the end and the guy I wanted to go with took me in year 12 (and was an absolute gentleman). Not that that guy I went with in year 11 wasn’t an attentive date too.
2. What was your FIRST alcoholic drink?
Port - and it tasted like cough medicine!!!
3. What was your FIRST job?
My first “real” job (not counting babysitting, some office filing and some work I did for my dad in my early teens) was as a check-out chick at Bi-Lo. I LOVED it!!!!
4. What was your FIRST car?
A yellow Diahatsu Charade that I named Nikki. I wasn’t rapt in the yellow colour but the price was good and it was SO cheap to run. I LOVED that car!!!
5. Who was the FIRST person to text you today?
We don’t get mobile coverage at home so texting is rare other than when we’re away.
6. Who is the FIRST person you thought of this morning?
No idea. I take about 2 hours to be awake enough to have a coherent thought!
7. Who was your FIRST grade teacher?
Miss Jury. She was so lovely.
8. Where did you go on your FIRST ride on an airplane?
I have only ever had 1 ride in an airplane when I was pregnant with our 2nd child. From Adelaide to our nearest town. Just a small 12 seater. A couple of week’s later our next door neighbours died in a plane crash with the same company and same sized plane and I’ve not been game to fly since. Plus we don’t have flights into our local town anymore (that company went bust). One day I’ll go on a large airplane (I bet it’s rare these days to find someone who’s never been on one).
9. Who was your FIRST best friend, and are you still friends with him / her?
A girl named Emma. I wish we still were in contact. I’ve moved so many times that it’s hard to maintain contact with old friends. We did manage to stay in contact for many, many years though.
ETA: I just found her on Facebook!!!! Wonder if she’ll remember me?
10. Who was your FIRST kiss?
I have no idea!!!! I *think* it was a boy named Vernon who lived across the street from us when I was about 10 or so. My first “real” kiss was with a guy named Aaron when I was 14. He was a sweetie (most of the time). Had my name on the ceiling above his bed in glow in the dark stars.
11. Who was the FIRST person you talked to today?
My husband.
12. What was the FIRST thing you did this morning?
Doesn’t everybody have a call of nature first thing in the morning? Or doesn’t that count? Most mornings I start the day by staring into a cup of tea and trying to work out how to get it to my mouth when my arms aren’t awake enough to work.
13. What was the FIRST concert you ever went to?
I don’t suppose school concerts count? I don’t think I’ve ever been to a “real” concert.
14. What was your FIRST tattoo or piercing?
My only ever tattoo or piercing is my ears which I got pierced for my 12th birthday. It was right in the middle of netball season (my last ever netball season until recently) and my coach was NOT happy. I had to wear band-aids over my ears to play. I remember her “*grumble* *grumble*….girls who have to get their ears pierced in the middle of netball season….*grumble* *grumble*”. LOL. I LOVED that coach.
15. What was the FIRST foreign country you went to?
Melbourne!!! Ha, ha. Well it felt like a foreign country when we first moved there. I’ve never been out of Australia.
16. What was the FIRST movie you saw in the theater?
Not sure if it was The Boy Who Could Fly or World Safari 3. My grandparents used to take me to a movie when I stayed with them in the January school holidays and I know we saw both of those but don’t know which was first.
First movie I went to on my own (ie without adults) was Good Morning Vietnam.
17. When was your FIRST detention?
Year 9 Maths. *sigh* I had numerous although only 1 was an after school one (my teacher was way too nice for his own good). Most were just lunch time detentions thankfully (as it meant my parents didn’t find out). I also got sent to the Deputy Principal that year but never “made it”. The teacher who sent me (and the loud-mouthed guy I was wagging class with) didn’t know me by name. The advantages of going to a large school. Lucky really as the Deputy Principal was nicknamed Hitler by the students and was pretty intimidating. But I was one of the good kids, really! (so good I actually kind of feel bad about this incident - doesn’t really feel “right” that I got away with it LOL).
18. What was the FIRST state you lived in?
South Australia
19. Who was the FIRST person to really break your heart?
A guy at uni named Paul. He was like 10 feet tall (not really but it seemed like it) and when we walked hand in hand I felt like a little kid. We had to kiss sitting down. LOL. I was devastated when he called it off after 3 days. REALLY devastated. He was the first guy to ever dump ME. Not sure if that was *why* I was so devastated. I’d had a thing for him for a while so was over the moon when we started going out.
20. With whom was your FIRST date?
Define date. Because I’ve never been a big one for “dating”. I’m more the “hanging out” type rather than the formal “guy picks up girl and takes her somewhere” kind of girl. I went to see a movie with a boy in year 9 (the one mentioned above - Good Morning Vietnam). That was probably my first ever “outing” with a guy alone.
21. What was your FIRST pet?
We had a pet rabbit named “fluffy”. I guess we had other pets but I can’t remember any earlier than fluffy.
22. Who was your FIRST roommate?
When I moved out of home I moved into a flat by myself. I did have a friend who came to stay with me from time to time when she had Tafe so that’s probably the closest I ever had to a room-mate. We got into a few scrapes together too. Like one night we were driving around and ended up being followed by a couple of guys. We had to drive to a male friend’s place as we didn’t want to lead them back to where we were living (my flat was in a back alley).
23. Who was your FIRST love?
A man named Chris who I’ve since caught up with on Facebook. Hope he doesn’t read my blog!
I was 13 and what did I really know about love? But in a way he was still my “first love”. My husband was my first love in an “adult” sense.
24. What was your FIRST screen name?
Lightening. I’ve mostly used “Jodi” online and occasionally “hanners” but Lightening was the first time I really sat down and thought about what I’d like to be known as online. It was a nickname given to me by some guys in my year 12 English class and written on my pencil case by my best friend (who spelt it wrong
). I like this spelling better though.
25. When did you have your FIRST baby?
January 29th 1998. I was 23 and thought I was “over the hill” and should hurry up and have kids. Mind you, there was a time when I thought 15 was “over the hill” too. I look back now and realise how young and inexperienced I was. But, you live and learn.
This was heaps of fun. If you decide to “pinch” it like I did, make sure you let me know so I can come and have a read.

Ps are you sure you had your first babe early this year?
Say you’re a lot younger than I thought. You were only 23 and having your first baby back in January this year? Wow.
I love reading theses memes. You’re never over the hill until you lose your sense of wonder.
#25. First baby january 29—-2008………..are you sure? It wasn’t (just maybe) an earlier year?
ROFLOL - okay, I’ve changed it. Problem is the “8″ sounded right.
That’s a great way to get a decade of your life back though isn’t it?
That’s so cool that you found Emma on Facebook! I bet she will remember you.
