Menu Plan and Grocery Challenge Update

Things that mysteriously made their way in to my trolley uninvited this week:

2 x Double Choc Tim Tams

1 x 10pk Bulla Splits

1 x 8pk Bulla Double Choc Ice Creams

1 whole pineapple (at least that’s 1 healthy “extra”)

In my defense, they were all on special!!! Tongue out

Grocery spend for the week: $57.30

Amount now in grocery “kitty”: $157.40

I was going to wait until the end of the year to transfer my accumulated savings into my BHAG account but I think I might empty it at the end of this month (or maybe most of it) and start again. I don’t really like carrying too much cash around with me.

Menu Plan For This Week:

Monday - Homemade Pasties with potato wedges and vegetables

Tuesday - Chicken Pieces (haven’t decided exactly how I’ll cook them yet)

Wednesday - Fried Rice

Thursday - Roast Lamb in the Slow Cooker

Friday - Hamburgers

Saturday - Quiche

Sunday - Leftover quiche

Shopping List so far:

bread

milk

fruit & veg

margarine

It is strange how things like ice creams and biscuits often make their way mysteriously into the shopping trolley - even more often when your spouse is shopping with you ;-)

I’m joining you in the pantry challenge this week. Technically this fortnight as we shop once every two weeks.

Our biggest expense is PepsiMax but if I don’t buy the cans in bulk when they are on special then hubby just buys the bottles cold at the corner store. I can justify 50c/can, but $2-3/600ml bottle is a rip off.

I had a bunch of stuff jump into my trolley too. Mini muffin pan, assorted food colourings, bright coloured mini patty cake cases, mars bar cookies and choc malt ice cream topping. (and Panettone. Love that stuff) And I picked up the free Coles christmas magazine. There’s some wonderful recipes in it this year. I’ve already made the cheesy chicken balls. Surprise! Hubby liked them.

    Girls need chocolate babe.

    It is a fact.

I just demolished a Homer Hudson chocolate mousse. Purely for medicinal purposes…

    Hi Jodie!
You’ve inspired me to menu plan again too! and I am going to follow your lead with the fab plan to eat from the pantry and budget each week and save the extra! You are doing so great with your savings so far!

That’s a great idea to plan the menu for the entire week - might have to try it some time.

By the way, love reading the posts here - keep up the great work!

Jason - mine was a 5 year old but hubby can be rather “helpful” at times too. ;)

Marita - good luck. Sometimes you’ve just got to go with the best option in your situation don’t you.

River - oh your trolley sounds wonderful. Glad you found a new recipe hubby likes. :)

Kelley - Homer Hudson chocolate mousse? Not sure I’ve ever seen one of those but it does sound good!!! Yeah, chocolate is up there with life’s essentials.

Susan - thank you and so lovely to hear from you. Good luck with your own challenge. :)

Aussie Detox Blogger - thank you. :)

I have been doing a bit of a pantry and freezer challenge to empty them …but I can’t resist those specials either.
Our IGA had the icecreams on special too this week.
Well done on your grocery spending I am in awe of you … eeks mine is no where close.
I am with River on the Coles “FREE’ magazine - they want to you to buy buy buy though and they are sucking me in with the recipes.
