Not This Year

Over the past few days, there have been many “I’m doing NabloPoMo” posts flying around the blogosphere. For those not in the know, NaBloPoMo stands for “National Blog Posting Month”. the idea is that you commit to publishing a post on your blog every day for the entire month. For some this is “business as usual” because they post every day already. For others it’s a quite a challenge and you see the occasional “I have not idea what to post but I’m writing this because I said I would”.

Last year I participated and really enjoyed it. At the same time, I also participated in NaNoWriMo, which is National Novel Writing Month. The idea being you write a 50,000 word novel in the space of a month.

One thing I’ve noticed with writing is that the more you do, the more you want to do. Caught up in the spirit of the month last November, I also managed to start a new blog.

So the issue I have here is that I can’t afford to get over enthused and start any more blogs.

And while I LOVE Nanowrimo (and have participated for a few years now), I just need to focus on other things in my life right now.

So, I refuse.

This year I am NOT participating in NaBloPoMo OR NaNoWriMo.

Gee, it’s going to feel weird!

I do, however, have a couple of other writing projects on the go. We’ll see how they pan out.

So, who’s “doing it” and who isn’t this year?

    I’m not bothering.

I post daily most of the time anyhow.

    :)

I’m so glad you aren’t starting any more blogs - it’s hard enough to keep up with you now lol ;)

I’m in this year for the first time. I’m hoping it will kick-start me into a better blogging routine again. Or I might completely burn out and run out of things to say - who knows? :)

I was very tempted, but I have some projects that I really want to complete before the new baby arrives. So I had to use self restraint and have decided to give it a miss. I think I just would have found it too much for me at the moment. Good luck to all those who are in and I look forward to reading the posts.

I’m doing it for the first time.

I didn’t know you wrote novels.

    I do…well, DID too.

Maybe you’re right about the starting new blog thing. I didn’t even think about that, but about the same time I signed up for NaBloPoMo, I started a new blog. I keep thinking why in the world did I do that????? I have enough stress keeping up with one blog.

I’m in for NaNoWriMo, as you know. Managed 10,000 words on the first weekend, so I’m well on my way to making it this year. Even though I’m only around for the first 26 days of the month.

As for NaBloPoMo - I missed it last year, but I’m planning on upping the ante a little on my blog this month anyway, so I’ll probably end up posting a fair bit anyway, especially as planning and packing goes down to the wire towards the end of the month.

Plus, I have exams, so I need to, you know, procrastinate ;)

Not me! Not me! Not ME!

No way. My feedreader is groaning already with those doing it.

    Nope.

    Viva le resistance!

Bettina - lol. I know. I find it hard to keep up with me too. :)

Guera - good luck. It is good for that. I find the more I blog, the easier it is to write posts (or think of ideas for posts).

Planning Queen - sounds wise. I think they have their place but it’s important not to simply do them “because everyone else seems to be” too.

Dina - I only write novels for my own enjoyment. They’re not good enough to be read by anyone but me. LOL. Good luck this month.

Dorothy - it’s awesome that you’ve had such a positive experience with blogging. Take care of you!

Kin - lol. I honestly do not know how you do it!

Kelley - Great restraint my dear! :)

Not for me thanks. Don’t get me wrong, I can def appreciate the idea behind the initiative (and even the inestimable Mr Gaiman is taking part in the NaNoWriMo effort this year)… but when it comes to blogging, I prefer the blog posts I read/write to have some sort of compulsion behind them… not the (as you point out) “I’m writing this for no other reason than to post” kind.
