Smiley Saturday - Victory Smiles

smiley-saturday-2.JPG

Well, you already know this has been a week FULL of smiles for me with our Netball Grand Final Victory!!! Here’s a shot of my medallion:

Netball Medallion

Followed on Sunday with our club presentations for the football and netball season.

Lightening with plaque, trophy and premiership medallion

For those who missed my original post, that’s one award - The Most Improved Senior Netball Player. It’s a perpetual award so one part goes on the club wall and the trophy is for me to keep.

Then last night we had our Victory Dinner. A time to celebrate our Grand Final win. Here we all are sitting at the “winners” table.

Netball Victory Dinner

The coach gave out Beanie Kids awards which was lots of fun. She’d chosen a Beanie Kid for each player with an explanation for why she had chosen that Beanie Kid.

And LOOK AT MINE!!!! (sorry for shouting, I’m VERY excited!!!)

Netball Beanie Kid

A netball beanie kid!!! In Wing Defense!!!! Smile Obviously she thinks I’m so good that one day I’ll play netball for Australia!!!! Wink

I remember seeing these when DD was shopping for a Beanie Kid one day on the way out to netball training. I’d only just started playing and I REALLY wanted one.

Like REALLY, REALLY wanted one.

But what self-respecting 34 year old (actually, I was only 33 back then) buys THEMSELF a beanie kid? Someone has to give you one right? That’s much better!!!

And they DID!!!

I got a netball beanie kid! I got a netball beanie kid!

LOL. That’s going to bring me lots of smiles every time I see it.

The night didn’t quite turn out how we’d planned. Instead of partying into the wee hours of the morning we ended up at the hospital just as the clock ticked over into another day. We’d had a phone call during the evening from Farmboy’s mum to say that Trailer Boy wasn’t going all that well. We got back there about 11 and decided to whip him up the hospital and get the nurse on duty to listen to his chest “just in case” (since we were so close and all). By the time we got there, the croupy cough had just started and by the time the doctor arrived, he had full blown croup.

Redipred hardly touched the sides and the poor kid spent half the night coughing up mucous. *sigh* So I’m sleep deprived but not quite for the reasons I expected.

But, all that aside…

I’ve got a netball beanie kid! I’ve got a netball beanie kid!!!! LOL.

What Smiley moments have you had this week? If you’d like to share, feel free. Or write a post that makes people smile in some way and join us in Smiley Saturday this week. Then share your link using the Mr Linky below. Smile

P.S. I’ve got a netball beanie kid! I’ve got a netball beanie kid!!! LOL. Okay, I’ll shut up now. Laughing

Now now, Lightening, you are NEVER too old for a Beanie baby.

    lol.

I am so glad that you have enjoyed yourself with the netball. Good for you.

Cute Beanie Baby. Now you have to start a collection.

Congratulations on your win. Your trophy and medallion are very pretty.

Seems no-one remembers the good old-fashioned croup treatment. Warm moist air. Have a pot or kettle boiling in a smallish room, sit with the child on your lap or propped up in bed and just breathe the warm moist air until the airways relax and the child falls asleep.

Unless there are other problems and medication is necessary.

WS - cool! So I can get more then???? :)

Russ - sounds a bit like it. Wonder if they do them in different positions? Maybe if I learn a new one next year, I can get one in a different position. It’ll only take me 7 years to get a whole team. Then again, I think there are only 3 positions on the court that I’m tall enough to play!!!

River - Thanks. Problem is they keep changing their minds on what the “best” treatment is for croup. We ended up heating up the room to almost uncomfortable to stop the coughing. He’s doing a lot better so far tonight (just had his second dose of Redipred).

Praying for Trailer Boy, can’t have a sick boy going on holiday! He’ll put germs all over the new caravan!

I had no idea you wanted one of those beanie kids so badly! I actually nearly gave you the princess pink one (for obvious reasons!) but Steph insisted that you get the WD one. As far as I know they haven’t made any in other positions yet, so you will just have to stay there! And yes, there are only three positions on the court for vertically challenged folk like us!

Oopsie, I’m not quite ready yet, ignore me!

Well done you. That certainly is an achievement to celebrate. Isn’t it amazing what we ‘yearn’ for.

I love your new netball beanie kid! :) It’s like the icing on the cake for this week of celebrations!

Celebrating with all of you and so glad you’ve shared your VICTORY stories!

What a bummer that the evening was interupted with a croupy cough. Praying he is feeling better quickly. Have you ever tried hepar sulphuris calcareum (homeopathic med)? We used it for our children when they were young and battled that horrid croupy cough… Just a thought.

So thankful Coach Sharon blessed you with your netball beanie kid so you have a permanent reminder of this season and to continue to inspire you to get ‘fit and ready’ for next season! :)

Sharon - lol re the germs on the new caravan. I think he’ll come good and if not, we have antibiotics. Maybe Steph knew something? (intuitively I mean). Or maybe she just wanted the pink one. ROFLOL.

    Claire - thank you.

    Storyteller - Indeed it has.

Joanie - no, I’ve not heard of that remedy for croup. I’m just starting down the route of homeopathic remedies so it sounds interesting.

Maddy - thank you so much. It’s awesome and I’m overwhelmed that a stranger would go to such efforts on my behalf. Thank you. :)

For croup heating the room is not enough, there needs to be steam. Warm, MOIST air to breathe is the aim. But if medication works faster then go for it.
What you said to Sharon–antibiotics? For croup? I thought antibiotics were for infections and croup isn’t one as far as I know. I’d better do some research……….

  14. river, 22. September 2008, 20:09

I googled and read quite a bit about croup, so now I’m more informed than I used to be. I’ve learned that there are 2 kinds. Spasmodic croup which is not preceded by a cold and regular croup which is preceded by a cold or other infection. I’m happy to be corrected on this as I really had no idea. I’m glad you have your doctor helping and I won’t be dispensing advice on treatment for it again. Seeing as how I was so wrong.

    That’s a gorgeous netball beanie baby… :-)

Poor Trailer Boy :-/ I hope he’s better soon.

Congratulations on the win. I’ve been reading along but short on time for commenting.

I think it is fabulous how much you have achieved this year. You have certainly inspired me. Thank you.

You have my sympathies on the croup. I got it often as a child and Heidi gets it now. Warm moist air and steroids like rediprep really are the only treatment options for Heidi. Even the asthma puffers don’t help at all. Yet my nephew who gets croup responds well to the vent olin if they get in early enough. Funny how different kids can be.
