Oh, that picture is gruesome. I agree about the calamine lotion being completely useless, I have to say. Presents - for Mum & Trailer Boy - is definitely the best medicine.

Oh babe, I hope he is feeling better soon. Mine had it at a very inconvenient time... but as for the vaccination, I have heard a lot of kids still get it anyway! So I haven't bothered with Boo. He hasn't had them yet though... EEEKK!

And you should totally buy yourself something nice.

Katrina - I hadn't heard that. I guess we'll see re immunity. DD had them at 6 months and an EXTREMELY mild dose. Will see if she gets them again or if her immunity is there.

Kin - LOL. That would get us all a bit worried wouldn't it? Disease via internet. No-one around here has had it but it has been going around the town we visited when we visited the newborn nephew a couple of weeks ago. So sounds like that's where he picked it up.

Cuileann - Yes, we did the oatmeal bath thing. DS wasn't all that impressed with the oatmeal stocking in his bath. LOL.

Journeyer - :) Didn't end up buying myself a present. :( Couldn't find anything that would cheer me up.

Kate - wish we had a Big W. :( Wasn't easy to find a sticker book in our small town but I eventually found a dinosaur one that seems to be doing the trick.

Dina - thanks.

Sharon - if only mummy could find something to buy herself. :(

River - mumps are horrible. I'm very glad they are immunised against. Chicken pox are uncomfortable but I don't think they're anywhere near as bad as some of the other childhood illnesses.

Jenn - I remember my mum trying that when we had the German Measles and the neighbours kids had Chicken Pox. None of us gave one another the opposite "disease". Pity because I ended up with Chicken Pox at 15 which wasn't a lot of fun.

Miserly Mum - There seems to be a lot of debate out there about the chicken pox vaccine because apparently it doesn't give life-long cover the way actually having the disease gives you. Which is one of the reason we decided to give DS the chance to have them before going the vaccination route.

Michelle - he doesn't seem too bad. I started on the Phenergen route yesterday which is helping with the itch. Still not heaps of spots although they're still appearing.

Bettina - nursing sick kids is not the best part of parenting is it? DS seems a bit brighter today so fingers crossed we've passed the worst of it now.

bugger the mild dose, I hope he has a good dose so he doesn't get them again later. Once is enough.

Hope he's on the mend soon. I have my own sick boy at the moment and it's just miserable.

Hope he's not in too much itchy agony. My two got it when they were 3 and 4 and you could hardly put a pin between the spots. My dad got it at 45 and didn't know you could be so sick without dying, my two of my brothers got it and then me on my 18th birthday :( Poor mum had it in the house for about two months (we each got it two weeks apart), my youngest brother got it when he was two and had two spots on his foot. I guess his immunity was up, 'cause he didn't get it again. Humorous fellow he is, he went out and brought a chook inside 'to keep me company' while I had the pox. Surprisingly, he still lives...

I hope your little boy feels better soon. I had chicken pox when I was 16 - so quite late and it wasnt allot of fun - dad had chicken pox and then got it when he was 30 and he was terribly ill. My kids have only had mild doses (of what I think was chicken pox) and I had thought about immunizing them - this might be something I look further into and talk to our doctor about. I'm not sure what helps but I remeber using Solugel for our DD (apparently this doesnt dry out the spots like calamine lotion) and me having been bathed in smelly pinetarsol (sp??).

Poor kid, I hope your son feels better soon! I remember when I was a kid when one child in the neighborhood caught it everybody sent their kids over to play in the hopes they would catch it, too! :) There wasn't a vaccine back then, just friendly neighborhood chickenpox parties. ;)

In our house my eldest had a fair covering of spots, younger brother had mumps at the time and was upset when he got the pox AS WELL, younger sister had so many spots we could barely find an inch of "clean" skin. Many hours were spent in cool baths which had a little vinegar added to soothe the itch. Calamine lotion, as recommended by chemists, government department leaflets, and health clinics, I found to be completely useless.
