Physical Activity
I’ve been working on making exercise a daily habit this week. Once upon a time (in a dark distant past - LOL - about 12 months or so ago), I was so in the "habit" of exercising daily that it was difficult NOT to exercise. These days, things have switched back to the opposite and I find it hard to find the motivation to get going.
Once lost, physical fitness and the habit of exercise are VERY hard to regain.
As Craig Harper has pointed out many times in his posts, there are some things in life that we see as "negotiable" when in reality we should see them as "non negotiable". So I’m working on daily physical activity as being "non negotiable" in my mind.
It can’t be about weight loss. Because if it’s about weight loss then if it doesn’t work or if I ever reach my desired weight, it becomes "negotiable" again.
In my mind it HAS to be about good health. Regular physical activity is essential for good health and general well-being. And once it becomes a habit, I find it quite enjoyable as well.
The plan is to start with doing some form of exercise EVERY day. If I’m tired, I just go for a short walk or spend 10 minutes on the exercise bike. At the moment, it’s more about forming the habit than how long I actually go for.
Hopefully once the habit is formed, I can work on extending the time and physical fitness side of things (just gradually doing more or increasing intensity each time).
For the past week, I have managed to engage in some form of physical activity/exercise every day. So that’s a good start. A couple more weeks of this and hopefully a habit will have been formed.
Netball
We lost our netball game yesterday. :( To be honest, I was quite surprised. The last 2 times we’ve played them we’ve won quite comfortably and I thought the team yesterday would be stronger than what we’ve played with in the past.
Maybe it had to do with several of our players being ill? Or perhaps they wanted it more? Finals nerves? I have no idea.
It was a totally nail biting game though (at least it would have been if my nails weren’t already cut SHORT for netball!
). Very close pretty much the whole game through and we were actually in front a couple of times during the game.
Now we have to play again this week and WIN if we want to get into the grand final. Providing we actually win next Saturday, I do wonder if this could go in our favour in terms of the grand final. Our team seems to play better when we haven’t had a week off.
I guess time will tell. Lucky it’s only a game eh?
(yes, Miss "Not Competitive" REALLY WOULD like to win a grand final!!!)
I was just as exhausted last night having played one quarter as I usually am after playing 3 quarters. Must have been all the tension!!!!
P.S. I’m currently testing Windows Live Writer as an option for blogging while I’m on the road. I have no idea how this post is going to turn out so bear with me if there are some issues. This program enables me to write posts while offline and then publish them when I have internet access.
It’s actually quite strange composing a post in a different window. It’s amazing how much our brains rely on familiar territory. Getting my brain into "post writing" mode in this window (as opposed to composing in the wordpress window) is proving to be quite a challenge.

For me the key with exercise, is making sure it has its time in the day. Weekdays I walk the kids to school every day (3kms) pushing the pram aroudn our hilly streets. I have then locked in a couple of fitness classes that I go to. If I don’t have these regular commitments, I have found that there is always something more “urgent” or “important” than my exercise. And really my health and happiness is by far more important than most of these other things.
Hey Jodi,
Good luck to you and thanks for inspiring me… Spring is a great time of year to make exercise a habit! BTW, I’m going to netball on Wednesday night… think I may have played netball briefly in primary school but not since so should be interesting!! Any tips?
Emma.
Hi Jodi!
I’m planning on making exercise a habit starting this week….
BTW. Speaking of exercise, don’t be surprised if your PT cancels tomorrow. We have just dropped her home from the netball dinner where she WON association A Grade best and fairest!!! Suffice to say she has had a VERY good time today and was a wee bit (ok, a LOT) wobbly on her legs!
Planning Queen - I’ve sort of been doing this with PT sessions, netball training, gym buddy etc but the only problem I had was doing NOTHING on the other days and doing NOTHING if it got cancelled.
Emma - Going to play? Tips? Try to catch the ball with your hands not your head. Land on 2 feet if you can (so you don’t have to remember which one you’re allowed to move). 3 seconds is longer than you think so take your time with passing. And above all, have FUN!!!!
Sharon - We’re on for Wednesday then? WOOT! on the award. I figured she was probably a good contender. How did all the pom-pom waving go?
Hi Jodi,
Maybe to play, not sure yet. Not sure how it will work out, was planning to take my kids with me (it’s from 7-8pm) but found out today that every 3 weeks they play from 8-9pm… don’t really think that will work, it’s a bit late for kids to be up on a school night… Anyway, think I’ll just go this week and play it by ear.
Thanks for the tips!
Emma.
