The Bloggest Loser Challenge - Motivation Zero

A spring scale measures the weight of an objectImage via Wikipedia I had this great idea that joining the Bloggest Loser Challenge would give me the motivation to actually DO something about my current weight issues.

Not that they’re hugely bad. Other than the fact that they’re currently in an upward direction. Yell

Anyway, I was WRONG!!!

Which hardly ever happens!!!! Laughing

Because the thing with weight is, you don’t tend to lose it unless you’re ready. Unless you want it BADLY enough.

And I’m not sure if I do.

Yet! Undecided

*sigh*

Not sure what to do about my lack of motivation.

Because I’m REALLY going to kick myself if this upward trend continues and I put on the rest of the 20kg I lost a couple of years ago.

Aaarrrggghhhh!!!!!!!!!!

I know what works for me. Running. Every. Single. Day.

So, if I could just do that. You’d hope the rest would just fall into place.

We’ll see.

Very interesting, weight watchers ad was on Blogher when I logged in here:)

I’ve yet to find what works for me. I KNOW I should be cutting my portion sizes, but I tried that last week and got lightheaded and dizzy at work, I’ll have to try a different method. I’ve already cut my snacking by about 75%. Perhaps if I stick with the much less snacking forever and in a few weeks give the portion cuts another try…….

Dieting sucks. That’s all there is too it. Lets all lobby the fashion industry so they make fat trendy. People thinks cats are cute when they are fat. I wanna be a cat. But with human food.

I can’t wait for warmer weather. I know that when it warms up and I can swim (which I enjoy) that the motivating bit will get a LOT easier.

Oh. I wouldn’t have thought to put it into words like that, but that has been completely true in my experience too!

I think it’s so hard to lose weight.

    The motivation thing……

I can be motivated to diet and exercise….but that lasts only a short time. Eventually, my motivation to overeat and be lazy overcomes the good motivation.

Half an hour running roughly burns off 2 pieces of toast with vegemite on it. I find it is easier to do without the toast than it is to do the half an hour of running. If you work out the energy your body derives from what you eat normally and then workout how many hours of exercise you’ll need to burn that energy, you’ll find the answer depressing.

As I’ve said before, it is about changing your relationship to food.

    Hi Jodie,
I know what you mean about motivation - you think going to see my thin sister in 8 weeks (who lives in the tropics and has a pool) would be motivation enough for me to start exercising and eat better. Not so.
My workmates and I are doing the “Lighten Up SA”.
Here is a quote from the website
“Lighten Up SA is a team based challenge designed to encourage small, achievable and positive changes that will kick start a healthier lifestyle.
Not only will you feel better by losing 5 kilos during September and October 08 and have a new attitude to life, you will be supporting Diabetes SA to continue their work against diabetes.
The objective of Lighten Up SA is to create an environment of support for participants. By being part of a team, being sponsored by family and friends and continual encouragement from Diabetes SA - there are multiple factors for maintaining an individuals motivation for improved health. ”

Here’s hoping this works for me in the long term!
    -hugs-
    Lis

Suzie - that is funny (the weight watchers thing). I LOVE running on the beach!!! It’s my favourite part about our summer holidays (which are usually near the beach).

River - the most frustrating part for me is knowing what works but still not doing it. :(

Sharon - I just snorted tea out my nose!!! :D

Bettina - yes, winter is traditionally a harder time to lose weight.

Cuileann - pity that it’s true though isn’t it? :/

Dina - as Craig Harper has told me - it’s because we think of exercise and healthy eating as being NEGOTIABLE. He’s right. But that still hasn’t seemed to change my thinking. Aaarrggghhhh!!!!

Stuffy - for me it’s not about the maths of calories in vs calories out. When I do cardio on a daily basis, my body seems to naturally crave what it needs rather than what I want. So motivation becomes less necessary and it seems to all fall into place.

Lis - that “Lighten Up SA” sounds interesting. Might have to take a look.
