I didn't do very well for my first week of the challenge, either. But there's always next week, right?!

Clothing is the other thing that is sucky about losing a lot of weight. I'm still off my goal weight by about 10 kgs, but when you lose a lot of weight you find yourself having to constantly buy new trousers (shirts aren't as much of an issue and Mr Shirt Mk V is still going strong). Every two or three months the pants that you just got start to want to fall off and you have to go and get the next size down. I pretty much have one pair of pants now that sort of fit properly because buying more is a waste when I'll get 3 months out of them at best. I had to drill more holes in a belt I purchased in May because it is now too big. I know, cry me a river right ...

I know how you feel about butter on toast. Mmmmmm yummy. Try other things like Philly cheese, avocado, jam, peanut butter, all without butter of course.

And try protein instead of other things - grill some cheese on a piece of toast. It will warm you up but the protein will fill you up for longer. If it fills you up for longer you may only want one piece.

And I am sure that you have "lost" weight despite the scales not indicating that. Try measuring your waist and hips for a start and see how you go.

Good luck with it all. And try not to hyperfocus on it too much - then you will get obsessed.

The whole thing sucks. I hate having to think about it. And I do have to think about it. ALL THE TIME. Because if I don't, then I pay for it. I'm just in a can't be bothered phase at the moment.

I think I'll just get fat.

Kate - I have a friend who does that (loses weight during pregnancy). I tend to GAIN my weight while breastfeeding so I'm backwards too. :(

Marita - thanks. I have to admit that I've never tried Hummus. I used to make my own soy & linseed bread and quite liked that without butter. Hopefully once my body adjusts to all the med changes I'll be able to return to making that.

Lulu - I have way TOO MANY downfalls. :) Just working on 1 at a time for now.

River - I have no self control and there's no way I'd stop at 1 piece. I'm MORE likely to stop if I don't have butter on it as it won't be as nice.

Dina - super skinny is something I have NEVER been. As for not eating for a WHOLE DAY. Well, that aint going to happen. Not for me.

Jeanie - I gain weight at both extremes although I was at my thinnest when we got married because of a stressful situation I had been living in so I guess if the stress were extreme enough I might lose weight. I've not lost weight will all my depression issues though because I do tend to comfort eat.

Stuffy - you being thin just doesn't seem right somehow. :( I liked your cuddly-ness. I get cold now because my meds stuff up my circulation.

Jayne - my clothes are definitely NOT loose. Although the fact that I'm still wearing them 10kg heavier possibly means there's some middle ground in there in terms of size vs weight.

Yum, vegemite on buttered toast hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Muscle weighs more than fat, so judge by the looseness of your clothes as well as the scales.
Now I'm off to scoff diced pear for breakfast while trying to convince myself it really is as yummy as hot buttered toast... ;)

One thing people don't mention when you lose a lot of weight are the downsides. Think I'm kidding? I get bloody cold now. Used to be able to get through life rarely putting on a jumper. Now I'm shivering in bed with two blankets on! And seats! A nice padded butt made the most uncomfortable seat bearable - now it hurts after a few minutes if I'm not on something cushy! And there is a whole lot of nobblyness that one was insulated from - used to be able to rest my knees together when lying down - now its all bony and uncomfortable. But mostly it is the cold that I really hate.

Good luck Lightening - my most effective weight loss strategies have been - regimentation (Jenny Craig, 1987), jaw reconstruction (1989), ulcer (1991) and near nervous breakdowns (1996, 2000). I have gained weight through fear I may be found attractive (1987), partying too hard (1990, 1993, 1997) and love (1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2006).

So generally the association with most good things has led to a fatter Jeanie - big emotional hurdle to leap, but an even bigger hurdle if I look in the mirror or sideways at clothes I used to wear...

Soo know where you are coming from. It is hard isn't it. I am still trying to lose pregnancy weight (from 12 years ago!!)LOL. Well that's my excuse. I too love the butter so what I have done is make lemon butter. You then get the goodness of citrus and eggs with a small amount of actual butter and yummy to boot. Good luck with it and don't give up on the exercise - it is good for you in more ways than one.
