Bloggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge

Runner Up--Day 114: January 25th, 2008--Weigh...Image by amyliagrace via FlickrI got on the scales this morning to see what damage I did while we were away recently. The news was not pretty. Despite my increase in exercise through personal training, netball and going to the gym, I’m just not winning the Battle of the Bulge.

Sadly, I am currently carrying 10kg MORE than I was at a similar time last year.

On a positive note, my fitness and strength IS improving. So it’s not ALL bad news.

However, I would REALLY like to get the scale numbers moving in a downward direction. I don’t really mind how slowly they move down as long as they start moving DOWN (rather than UP).

Other than my recent gain after being away, I have at least stopped the upward motion since beginning my personal training sessions. So that is good news.

Anyway, when Leigh from Crazy Meezer issued her Bloggest Loser Weight Loss Challenge, I decided this might just be the accountability and kick start I need.

The challenge runs for 12 weeks and I’m already a tiny bit behind as it began on Monday 7th (while I was away GAINING weight!!!!). Check in’s are planned for Sundays.

I’m setting myself a goal of 6kg for the 12-weeks. I prefer the “slow and steady” approach when it comes to weight loss.

I have no plan whatsoever on HOW I’m going to achieve this goal yet (and today my head is rather foggy due to med changes so no plans will be formulated today).

If you want to join in, I’m sure you would be more than welcome. Just head over to Crazy Meezer and let Leigh know you’re in.

Just feel obliged to point out that muscle weighs more than fat. Check your measurements as well.

And you are more than welcome to pass some this way, I cant seem to maintain my healthy range atm. I need about the 6kg you want lost in the next 12 weeks. Do you a deal??? After that a few more would be ok. I have a good weight loss program near the end of Jan ;-)

Urgh…having just finished my freshman year, I am a complete cliche. I mean, I thought I was a bit overweight at the start of the year, but I’d love to be that weight now. :P Competition tends to be a good motivator for me too; I’ll think on joing this.

I’ve lost more than 50K over the last 3 years and 6 kgs in 12 weeks is a big ask (unless you are under some sort of intensive program - which makes it difficult to keep off). Lasting weight loss happens very slowly. Of course it varies from person to person, but that’s my observation having dieted regularly for 20 years and finally having found a system that works for me. My key to consistent progress is not to set unattainable goals - just to aim for the “next 5 kg down the track”. I’ve got 15 KG to go before I reach my goal, but I’d be surprised if I hit that before the end of 2009.

Good luck with it. I should be joining you, just like I should have joined you at netball training. PMS today. Not joining anything. Grrrrr. So be good on the netball court tomorrow OR ELSE!! ;)

I’m currently doing the cabbage soup thang.
Nothing is moving - not losing but not gaining, either.
    Good luck!

Amy - have I missed an anouncement somewhere along the way???? If only I could pass some on, I’d be more than happy to. Yes, there has been a slight change in my measurements which is good.

Stuffy - congratulations!!! What an awesome achievement. I realise 6kg in 12 weeks is on the high end of the scale in terms of a goal. I guess we’ll see how we go.

Sharon - oohh errr and we’re facing the big giants tomorrow too. LOL. Perhaps I should bring chocolate??? ;) Oh yeah, forgot this is a weight loss discussion.

Jayne - cabbage soup??? That sounds extreme.

It’s so hard to stick to any sort of routine while you’re away. And if you can’t enjoy a few extra tidbits while you’re celebrating…well! Good luck with the weight loss goal. It seems like you’re doing the right things to get the scales moving in the right direction soon :-)

I’ve tagged you for a Six Word Memoir meme (coming out in the morning). No pressure though - only do it if you want.

I understand how you feel, Use a tape measure, I found last year I lost a few Kilos, and a lot cms of the waist and hips was great. Size 10 jeans was the best.

I have put the kgs back on but still fit the Jeans? DR wants me to lose about 7ks, and I am wondering about joining a gym- prefer yoga, pilates and walking but know the bones need some weights.

Will sleep on this and may join in

Journeyer - thanks. Wonder if I can come up with something???? I have enough trouble with Twitter let alone getting down to 6 words. LOL.

Suzie - well my jeans are still tight. :(

Trish & Jenn - look forward to reading about your progress. :)
