School Dress Ups Don’t Mix with Perfectionist Procrastinators
Singstar Princess has a dress up day at school tomorrow. We’ve known about it for a while (although I did forget until the reminder notice on Friday).
So she thought she might go as a fairy. Which suited me fine. Chuck on a skirt, some fairy wings and a wand and away she goes.
Only tonight she comes home deciding she’d like to be a red fairy. Like the one in her book. I think it’s a Fairy Godmother or something like that. No wings. All red.
Oh.
So we’re trying to put together a red outfit like the book. Now. In like an hour. Before I have to get tea. *sigh*
And we don’t have a lot of red clothing. Cos we like PINK.
Doh!
I think we’re sorta, kinda getting there.
Thankfully she’s in a good mood.
Although I just tried to make her a red cape out of a red shirt from the dress-up box and she’s not sure it’s “quite right”. *sigh*
Dressing Up?
I’m not a big fan.
Figuring out dress up clothes the night before the event?
Blah!!!
It’s utter craziness!!!
Why didn’t I take the teacher up on her offer to figure something out from the school’s drama outfits?

I’m so with you on dressups - I hate them. We have one on Friday - they have to do as something starting with D or G. DS5 is going as a ghost - old sheet over his head. DS8 is going as a Docker - he has a Dockers jersey & socks. My biggest problem has been DS5’s friends all having dressup parties. So far he has been a pirate, a wizard & a knight & has a Peter Pan coming up. All in 2 months!
Pffft, we loathed dress up days when Feral Beast was at school, with some of the other kids’ parents hiring costumes and the teachers in professinal theatre costumes handing out the awards to the same kids each year - the ones in the hired outfits.
lol….this is a dilemma of parents the world over I think. I forced myself to love dress ups because it seemed that dress up day came every week.
We had a box of dress up bit and pieces: if it was in the box, the kids could do it. If it wasn’t in the box…choose a different character.
One pink fairy costume + one superman cape + one packet red fabric dye + 3 hours = red fairy godmother. The trick is to keep packets of dye handy…..
Reminds me of the time I had to make a “purple people eater” costume the night before a school play……” a what?” ( luckily I had an old purple velvet curtain…don’t ask)
