Quick Question: Gifts or Cash?

What Would You Do?Image via WikipediaMy birthday is next week.

Farmboy has just asked me whether I would like a few smaller things (to unwrap) and some money to spend or whether I want him to just buy me presents for my birthday (no money).

And I. Don’t. Know.

What would you do?

I LOVE unwrapping presents.

But I also LOVE shopping.

What to do. What to do.

Any input is welcome.

P.S. This is a quick post - I’ll be back soon with details about what went down yesterday.

Go with the few small things to unwrap and money to spend - you get the best of both worlds ;)

Does he buy good pressies? If he knows what you love, go with the pressies. Or ask for a small gift and money to spend - best of both worlds. I usually get a gift voucher - last birthday it was to my local boutique.

Des just had a birthday and i did the small present , number- he was thrilled, kept getting surprises and a scratchie too that had $ 4 when he scratched.

He seemed to think that was a real treat. it does depend on what he has in mind. A few years ago I got just one present, a very special necklace which i treasure plus a treat of swimming with the dolphins- truly wonderous!

That will probably really confuse you sorry

    Love & hugs

I’d go with the smaller gifts and the money - best of both worlds. I love unwrapping gifts too. I’m just a big kid…lol

Ooh Kelley - I already bought shoes. Yesterday!!! Black boots. With a heel. But low boots. Cos I have fat calves so no knee highs for me. :(

Thanks for your feedback people’s. I got grumpy with him because I was too tired to make a decision. So he’s said he’s going to work it out himself. Hopefully he doesn’t work out not to bother at all!!! :(

I am in same position as you - it is my birthday next week and abit.
I say the small gifts for kids sake and a little excitement - the cash for your sake.
I think practically and frugally - I want to reduce the clutter and useless gift giving for the sake of it.

My DH choices are not always the best and I feel bad exchanging stuff …with little things it doesn’t matter and if you don’t like … re gift or else re-turn when he is unaware …I haven’t yet though.

I love shopping with my hubby and luckily he loves shopping with me.

So cash and we go shopping together. Would that work for you and Farmboy? I find it is a great bonding experience and often we find something to buy that we can share which extends the experience and IMHO makes the gift more special.

Its my birthday this weekend and my hubby asked me the same thing this week. I got upset because I thought he had it all planned out. He is an excellent gift giver but I think he was struggling because money is so tight this year. Anyway, he admitted he already had a few little things but he wanted to check that I wasn’t expecting something huge! Actually all I really want is to leave the bubby with the in-laws, go see a movie, have an early night “wink, wink” and a late lie in!

I love surprises but having money to get some nice things would be good too, so long as you spend it on you. The last time I had money I bought the kids things… I got in big trouble from Dave, who now just buys gifts or will take me out shopping, so he can supervise.
