I was never a Big Brother fan but something about this year seems to have sucked me right in. Not sure what it is but there you have it. Not that I watch it religiously but I do tend to watch several shows a week.

The first couple of BB were good, after that I didn’t bother.

I don’t think we get them over here anymore. We use to be a couple of days behind you.

I hated how they would do the X rated version of the show, all about boobs and bums. **rolls eyes**

I can’t cope with BB in any way, shape, or form. I think it’s obscene on every possible level. If an ad comes on the tv for it, I switch the channel. A radio program I used to listen to used to interview evictees, and I used to switch it off. I don’t even listen to that station at all anymore. For some reason BB really gets up my nose! The thought that anyone other than single 20-somethings would even consider being on that show is nauseating, let alone someone with young children (or, indeed, children of any age). If there was one thing I could agree with a politician on, it was when John Howard (I think) suggested BB should be banned!

I also have issues with Home and Away and Neighbours. They are also banned in this house!

Rhianna’s daughter is 6 I think so probably not watching the show.

I think the concern isn’t that she cuddled up with some bloke on national television, but rather that if she did that on telly knowing that everyone was watching, how far would she have gone offscreen?

I think that to go on this show you have to be missing something anyway - commonsense & perspective. They are all looking for that Neighbours contract or a Ralph Magazine photo shoot. To me they all seem to be pretty self centred shallow kids anyway - not very interesting & a scary look at the younger generation.

I haven’t seen any of it so I have no idea who these people are, but my impression is certainly that the show actively goes after the lowest common denominator so none of this is surprising. I guess for me, the “fame” lasts for such a short time that it might not have any impact of a child’s life, depending on their age. As long as they aren’t watching it, or old enough to get teased about it at school.

But regardless of the impact, while the show may have been an interesting experiment once, it is now a waste of space.

I won’t watch these reality shows. I think that producers of fiction tv shows were crossing the line too many times with lowering our moral standards. The things they show on tv before 9pm is shameful. I think the producers now figure that if the raunchy stuff is being done by non-actors, real-life people then they don’t have to take blame/credit for creating this stuff, it’s our own fault, because it’s us who ‘write’ the dialog on these shows. They know the general public will watch it because it is real people and we can’t help but be curious about what our neighbors are doing. They’re going for our weakness. It’s sad because if tv is telling us that this is what people are doing now, we think there is something wrong with us for not doing it. Again, another way to lower our moral standards. Support group nothing, I think we need a grass-roots movement to change tv to be morally acceptable.

I think you have to be a certain type of person to enter into the big brother house. And I would imagine that its a self centered, wanting to make a big song and dance about yourself person.
Those kind of people dont make the best parents to start with. Don’t think you are over-reacting, but the reality of it is that these people were highly probably like that on the outside and their kids know it and already hide from in on a small scale in there towns. Being on national TV probably doesn’t add too much to what the people closest to them already know and see. Not that that makes it right.

Oh and please note I haven’t seen the most recent airings, we aren’t watching Free to Air TV (or paid) anymore, haven’t in about 12 months. Hmm that makes me sound umm condecending or something, it isn’t by choice, our reception tower broke and they haven’t fixed it yet. Not that we will go back to watching for a while I dont think.

You should see the American BB. Canada doesn’t have a BB, so we import the show from the States. Some of the antics the contestants get up to is amazing.

Last summer there was a contest for free clothes and the contestants had to strip down to their birthday suits, get into a tub of soapy water and hang up clothing that had letters on them to spell out a saying. To make matters worst as it were is that there was a father and daughter staying in the Big Brother’s House and the daughter was embarrassed at the thought of having to get naked in front of her dad.

The latest season the contestants were paired with someone in the house and were required to share a bed.

One of the contestants had promised her dad that she would not have sex in the BB House as apparently some had done that in a previous season.

I don’t think I could ever be a contestant on BB.
