I am such a Big fan of the British Royal family and othe royal families of the world.
I like posting comments on You tube instead of British Royal Blog. I collect their DVDS and magazines plus books of Anastasia. Sometimes I can learn from What People say in You tube regarding Royal HIstory.

I have a weird (morbid?) fascination with the Royals. I watched Di and Fergie tie the knot on telly, even though i was just a kid. I remember what i was doing when i heard the news of Di's death. My family and I watched the funeral on telly too. I adore Princes William and Harry, and have a grudging respect for the Queen. I absolutely LOVED the Queen Mum. She exuded class and character during a very difficult time in our history. I had the utmost respect for her.

Having said that, I am fiercely proud of being Australian, and will happily bag the 'whingeing Poms' any day! As I said, it's weird.

OUr very intelligent second minister for everything here (education, sport & rec, planning etc etc, our chief minister is minister for nearly everything else) declared that the Queen's birthday holiday should be changed to Kids Day - don;t really like that idea - my kids get enough attention every other day. He is also the minister that gave Canberra a public holiday on Melbourne Cup Day.

ROyal Family doesn't bother me, I really have no interest & don;t care whether we are a republic or not.

Hmm....I'm a big fan of Mary too. Not that I follow gossip mags but I do think she is beautiful and poised and just seems like a genuinely nice person.

I thought William might be the saving grace for the Windsor's but his more recent carry on's with his brother have shed doubt in my mind.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts on the discussion. It's quite an interesting topic to me. Feel free to add any further thoughts or comments if you have them. :)

Honestly, I don't follow the royal family, but Diana's death and the time leading up to it was sad. I never dreamed of being a princess or wanting any special treatment either. Great discussion to have though and hey thanks for commenting on my blog and following me on twitter

L, when my Mum took me to my first real hairdresser (as opposed to her hacking away at it at the kitchen table...she was quite good, but really.....) at the age of about 12, I requested a Lady Diana do'. I love the symbolism and tradition of the royal family, but would be happy enough to enjoy it at a distance in England, and to have a republic here where the traditions of an ancient rite have no potential effect on our democratic system. Lisa x
p.s. I still have the two womens weekly royal baby specials from William & Harry.

Diana was my favorite. She seemed real like us. Her sons as well. The others are just there and don't seem as genuine.

Great post..

I love reading about the Royal Family. I think it's so interesting. Although I do feel like the media made Diana's life miserable.

From a Canadian perspective I am an UEL (United Empire Loyalist) on 3 sides of my family. Which for those who don't know, we fled the American Colonies during the revolution and headed north to Upper Canada (present day Ontario) and Nova Scotia. I guess you could say we're royalists in our blood -- from a historical perspective.

My mum still collects the royal magazines every so often, and when the Queen is on TV, both my parents will watch/listen to her speak. When I traveled to Scotland last year we made a point to see the Castle of Mey, the Queen Mum's home which is now a Royal Trust.

As for myself I don't really think about the royal family, but I would never want Canada to become a Republic. Canadians pride themselves on 'not being American' thus we'll stick with the Commonwealth.

Our 'Queen's Birthday' is called Victoria Day and is celebrated in May. Many communities will put on a big show of it complete with historical Victorian costumes etc.. It is the ushering in of Summer and we all head to our cottages/camps/cabins to bring on Summer. I would hate to loose this holiday.

Cheers,
Maggie

I'm definitely a Republican so far as Australia is concerned but having said that I love looking at photos/hearing stories of the Belgian royal family and I enjoy reading things Princess Mary. I think because it is a life -so- far removed from mine?

I think it's tragic Princess Di died when and how she did and the world lost a good woman that day. I think it's even more tragic that her death and funeral completely overshadowed the death of Mother Teresa.
