Not an 'op shop' find BUT when i was in Muskoka a few weeks ago I went Antiquing.....and picked up a gorgeous hand stitched quilt for less than 100$. Considering brand new ones were going for 450$ or more I thought I got a good buy. I should really take a picture of it and post it...but that would require cleaning my room. Eeekkkkk! I think not!

My best EVAH op shop find was one of those 'perfect timing' things. I'd just moved into my very first house, and I needed a sideboard to put all my pretties in. I desperately wanted one of those lovely art deco rounded side ones - you know, the ones with a couple of glass doors and some drawers and the like.

I'd seen them in antique shops for $200-300 and waaay out of my price bracket. But I still needed a sideboard, so off to the Salvos I trotted.

And what did I find, just being wheeled into the shop, with a price tag of $50???

You guessed it...

My sideboard!

So for $70 (had to get it delivered) I had exactly what I wanted. I was absolute;y chuffed.

I got a gorgeous pink, white and black tartan skirt, Barbie brand from our local Red Cross op shop. Only $3.

I love it so much that I'm reluctant to part with it even though it does not fit either of my girls anymore.

I can never find decent clothing at secondhand stores, but years ago I found a sturdy little chest of drawers for $40, and the shop owner had to pass my place on his way home so I got it delivery free. I sanded and painted it and still have it in my bedroom. A few years later I got another larger 6 drawer chest which I used as is until two summers ago. At that time I'd saved enough to buy bedside cabinets and when I painted those I also sanded (well hubby did this part) and painted the large chest, as well as a hat and coat stand we'd found on the roadside during council cleanup month. I love painting furniture.

I'm crap at finding good stuff in op shops. Having said that I was quite chuffed recently when I bought some pants at the salvos for my son to wear to an "olden days" school day. The tag read $4.99 which I thought was a bargain. Then when I got to the counter the lady said "All blue tagged clothes are half price today". So I got them for $2.50 - real bargain :-)
