Who Knew Playgrounds Could Be Instruments of Torture???
Image via WikipediaDuring this week’s personal training session, we ventured out to the playground!!!
And no, it wasn’t REALLY torture. I just wanted a heading that sounded effective!!!!
We did step-ups on a platform.
Running up and down stairs (okay, it was Jogging really, not running).
Dips using some of the bars.
Sit-ups (well, they don’t require equipment anyway do they?)
Jogging around the playground.
And THIS was just a small playground!!!!
No more EXCUSES peoples!!! See, you don’t need fancy gym equipment to exercise. You don’t even need a babysitter. You can exercise while the kids PLAY!!!!
Okay, I will admit that there was no-one else around to watch me doing these crazy things. So you might prefer to find a nice, quiet playground that no-one else is using.
I fared a lot better this week. Seems my brain has gotten used to the crazy changes and I’m feeling more up to exercise. Don’t tell my personal trainer though or she might make me work harder!!!

Sounds like the exercise regime is going really well. Good for you.
We live next to a large parkland that has a little playground at one end. There are a couple of “boot camp” type personal trainers that set up each week out there and have their recruits use the playground.
It kind of makes you appreciate how much energy the kids have running around those things for ages
Running around after the kidlets at the playground is a workout in itself and pushing the swing is a good one for the arm muscles.
lol Marita. I agree.
So glad it is all going so well for you Lightening. Keep it up !!!
Yay! Go you!
I had my first real squash game last night. Worked up quite a sweat and now I’m quite sore in my lower back. Although I’m not sure if that is from the squash or the 18 holes of golf on Sunday. Probably the golf.
I’m so pleased that things are looking up for you. And I’m pretty sure your personal trainer (sadist that she is) won’t push you any further than you can handle. Of course her idea of what you can handle and your idea may differ slightly!
Look at you go Lightening! You’re going to be running marathons before you know it! Good to see you’re feeling better with the exercise, too.
Well done on the lifestyle change.
Journeyer - I know. Kids are amazing with their boundless energy!!!
Marita - too true.
Sharon - yes, I trust her completely.
Suze - I don’t know about a marathon. I think those are BAD for your health!!!
I’d settle at a 12km fun run. But I’m a looooonnnngggg way from that yet!
I can handle the running and sit ups, but I am really not a fan of dips! Looks like you have got yourself a great personal trainer with all the variety she is giving you.
Damn, there goes my last excuse. There are three playgrounds within walking distance from my house. Don’t know what dips are though.
I suggest you stay that way River! Ignorant of what dips are. I’m with Planning Queen. They’re not my favourite exercise. I HATE them. Which probably has something to do with the fact that I NEED to do them (ie my strength is lacking in that area - you use a lot of arm strength to do them).
Here’s a link that shows you:

There are of course variations on the theme but that shows pretty much what I was doing yesterday.
Hey Lightening.
Great Post! You’re absolutely right. You don’t need any fancy gym equipment exercise. In fact 85% of people with gym memberships DO NOT GO! Put on a pair of comfortable shoes and start walking or play a game of soccer with your kids. Consistency is the key when it comes to exercise.
what a great post I never thought of this .. though it is in the future till I find an enclosed playground for my escapees.
You’re up in the rolling post oh pink one…wander over to my place, copy and paste what I’ve done and add to it…all the rules are in the post I’ve done tonight.

Good luck honey
If you get overly motivated at the playground you can do some damage to yourself.. If you tried hanging upside down and then doing your sit ups (decline sit ups) you could crack your head, so your title is accurate!
Glad you are doing well with the exercising!
Hey Craig - thanks for stopping by.
85%???? Wow!!! That’s a pretty high percentage of non-use isn’t it? I think I’m too frugal to waste all that money. I’d either not sign up or be wanting to go all the time.
Planning Queen - I forgot to say before, my trainer has an amazing wealth of different ideas.
Trish - think of all that sprinting practise chasing the escapees!!!! LOL. Although not so good if they both decide to head in different directions is it?
Talina - LOL. That’s a worry. Can’t see myself attempting sit-ups while hanging upside-down any time soon. They’re hard enough lying down!
Anonymum - thanks. Should be fun. Will pop over and check it out.
So THAT’S what dips are…….hmmm, think I’ll give those a miss….
