Personal Training - Session Four
Can you believe I’ve actually made it through 4 sessions with my personal trainer??? Why, I’m almost an “expert” now.
Okay, that might be stretching it quite a bit. LOL. Perhaps rather than “expert” I could call myself a “survivor”.
This week I was all excited to use some pretty, new colour weights. Actually they weren’t pretty at all. They were an ugly orange colour. Note to self: write to the gym management and tell them they need to buy some PINK handweights. I can see the footballers being very impressed with those!!!!
So, anyway, back to the pretty bit. They seemed “pretty” because in my mind they equalled progress. And progress is exciting.
I got so excited I braved the scales this morning. NOT a good idea!!!! I’m not so excited anymore.
Yeah, I know, it’s about health and fitness and how you fit in your clothes and all that guff. Yada, yada, yada.
I even put on my form that weight loss was secondary to fitness. And it IS!!!! REALLY!!!! I just didn’t mention that it’s a very close second.
So I have like 2 weeks until I have to weigh and measure. Officially that is. Man, I really HOPE it shows some progress.
Oh, and I have a new meaning for the phrase “4 more”. It means “I’m sure I’m going to die any minute now”.

Congrats on surviving! lol
The best thing I ever did for weight loss was to stop weighing myself. Especially if you’re using weights, the scales aren’t an accurate measure of your progress. I never succeeded if I was looking at those numbers but did if I went by measurements. Haven’t weighed myself outside of one doctors appointment (couldn’t convince them not to do it, lol) in about five years.
Well done on surviving.
The hand weights are usually different colours for different weights so pink might be more or less than the orange. If its less, great, if its more you could be in trouble
And you are better off measuring yourself rather than weight alone as I’m sure you know, muscle weighs more than fat so you may not be loosing weight but toning up your muscles and looking fab (well more fab).
Congratulations, Jodi! Ditto re. measuring rather than weighing… but also remind yourself of all the benefits you can’t quantify. I’m sure you know as well as anyone how mind, body and spirit relate to each other and all those lovely things you are doing for your body will reap many rewards other than numbers.
Lauren - I think you’re onto something there. I don’t weigh myself very often for that exact reason. At the same time, for health reasons, it would be good if I lost some weight (my BMI isn’t exactly healthy).
Gemisht - yes, they are different colours for different weights. I didn’t spot any pink ones though. The PT does a weigh AND measure so fingers crossed if nothing shows on the scales it does on the tape measure.
Emma - you’re right (as usual
). That’s what I’m mostly trying to focus on. I WANT the numbers to be secondary. It’s just easy to get caught up in them from time to time.
Well done! Has it been four weeks already? Woohoo! Time flies when you are having fun! I thought of you yesterday and wondered how you would go getting to your PT session after such a hectic weekend.
I’m really proud of you (and just a teensy weensy bit jealous!)
Good on you gal - you sure are having a thrilling time by the sounds of it!
I waited till you posted this week so I could ask if you saw the article “Just personally ” in the Sunday Mail liftout “Body and soul” this week? (If you can’t get hold of it I can post it to you.)
It relates to one of your past blogs about your PT being like a friend and confidante! It was talking about support workers like PT’s, manicurists, hairdressers etc turning into personal therapists without us even realising, mainly because of the individual attention we get which is so rare these days sadly.
I jokingly told my counsellor the other day that she is like my paid friend.. I pay her to listen! We had a good cackle about that, but sadly the truth is that it can feel like that sometimes….. but she has been a great help and inspiration not just an ear to hear my woes!
Anyway cant wait to hear how many pink weights you get in the mail this week!
well done for sticking with your trainer and getting out there and doing it! motivation is the hardest thing sometimes.
an muscle weighs more than fat so you may see an increase before any loss happens. also as your mucle increases it starts to up your metabolism so there will come a point where it all starts to balance out, and then you’ll lose weight more easily. give it time.
Just imagine if you didn’t have a trainer. You might have stopped at 1…LOL
I’m really enjoying my swimming sessions too, so much so I’m looking at an open water competition by the end of the year
I only weigh myself occasionally, and I’m not losing loads of weight (about 1kg/month) but I notice things on a daily basis: I’m eating better because I need more energy (and less sugar highs), I’m drinking more (water :p), and feeling better and stronger.
And now the kids come to my sessions with me, I have my own personal cheer squad running up and down the side of the pool with me. Hmm, topic for a post of my own
