Pink Bling

Got meself some pink bling….. that phrase sounds much better in my head, set to music. Probably best I don’t break your eardrums by singing it to you though…. Wink It had a kind of a swing feel to it…..you know…. with a bit of a sway and some finger clicking….

Thanks my beautiful Meg. Smile This could almost say “your blog sucks” and I’d be excited that it was pink. Laughing Okay, maybe not. I’d be excited because it was pink but crying if someone said my blog sucks. Cry Which they didn’t, so this is an unnecessary digression.

Here it is:

btb_pink_smoothie.png

This award originated from Me and my Drum

To accommodate a variety of blog themes, I have created three different “flavors” of badges: Creamy Cabernet, Midnight Oil, and Pink Smoothie.

Earlier this year I was tagged with the blogging tip meme in which the tip I offered was “Be the Blog“. That phrase stuck with me because I think that really sums up what a successful blogger does. And what I mean by successful is that they make it their own, stay with it, are interactive with their readers, and just plain have fun.

Since then I’ve been thinking about creating an award of my own, but with so many out there, it’s hard to find a niche that remains untapped for recognition. So I said, “What the heck?”, and decided to shape the phrase into an award called (you guessed it): Be The Blog.

And now ladies and gentlemen (yes, some gentlemen read my blog, even if it is pink! Smile Which is cool, cos pink doesn’t have to be JUST for girls does it!), I need to pass this award on to a few of my lovelies.

You know, I’m really tempted to give it to you all. But that doesn’t really do the link-love thing and it doesn’t leave more people for y’all to pass it on to quite the same does it? So I guess I’d better just bite the bullet and pick a few….

Gemisht - cos even though she’s new to blogging she’s a valued member of the blogging community through her regular commenting and interacting. And her new blog ROCKS!!! And she needs some bling to decorate it with.

Erin! - cos she’s back online and left me a few comment essays that made me smile when the power finally came back on this morning.

Fussy - cos she tells me how pretty I am and even though she has like a gazillion readers, I feel like she’s talking just to little ole me. There’s an art to having a large readership and still making each visitor feel like they’re important. And her caption contests sure do crack me up! Where does she find those photos????

Kin - cos she had the most gorgeous baby and is in need of some pink bling. So Kin, this bling is dedicated to Megwyn. Kiss (and that’s a kiss NOT hot lips thankyou Bettina! Wink) Did I get to give her her first ever bling???? Did I? Did I???? Although you might want to choose another colour to put it on your blog cos pink and orange…..ewwwww (just my personal opinion of course Wink). Pumpkin Patch seem to think they go alright together. Although maybe not this season since I went looking for an example and instead found this totally HOT jacket that matches my blog. Doesn’t come in my size but DD would look fabulous in it!!!! Anyone want to send me a pumpkin patch gift certificate? No? Okay, worth an ask. Perhaps if you all click on that link they’ll come looking to see where all the traffic is coming from and offer to give me one for FREE???? LOL. Okay, maybe not. Tongue out Hey Meg, can I send a trackback to Pumpkin Patch?????? Laughing

Yes, that was a long paragraph but it all needs to go together cos it just does. And it probably shouldn’t have any full-stops either cos my brain didn’t take a breath the whole time it was thinking here…..

And that will do for today cos I have a couple of other blings to fling and don’t want to wear out my bling flinging finger. Wink

About The Power

We had none.

Sometime in the night it went out.

The kids woke up about a bazillion times and then I didn’t even have my lovely blogworld to visit over my morning cuppa. Actually, I didn’t even have my morning cuppa until farmboy felt sorry for me (or was it felt sorry for him having to deal with me when I haven’t had my morning cuppa???) and got the gas camping stove from the shed and made me a cuppa. But still no blogworld to share it with…. Cry Cos blogging takes POWER yeah?

I really HATE power outtages. We have no water then too cos our water is all pumped via a pressure pump (cos it doesn’t come through a pipe with pressure like most normal other people’s does).

We get our fair share of them. Power outtages that is. BUT, they do sometimes gives us a little compensation for our inconvenience. The other day in the mail we got sent a cheque. Cos the power was out more often than it was on quite a bit during January.

DH took the cheque. Then I took it back again with a tiny little “I reckon that’s mine”. He kinda looked at me funny cos the electricity bills go through the farm books. But we still count them as partially personal income. It’s just an accounting thing that they go through the farm books.

And I was like “well the house was the one out of power wasn’t it?” Okay, the sheds and stuff were too but we were on holidays so it’s not like he NEEDED the power then. Me either, other than the tiny little problem of keeping stuff frozen. But we managed.

He still looked at me kinda funny. A bit shocked like I think. So I said “well, can you think of a good reason why YOU should get the money?”

He said “no”.

So I got a hundred and sixty dollars!!!!! Money mouth (that was in a sing-song voice too if you didn’t catch it the first time round - a kind of neer-ner sing-song voice. Cos I am TOTALLY mature and all that! Wink)

If the power is unreliable, would a generator help?

  2. lightening, 20. February 2008, 14:04

Yes a generator would help. Got a roundtoit I can give to farmboy? He thinks of it EVERY TIME the power goes off and then promptly forgets as soon as it comes back on again. Hang on…. he’s just telling me it’s the $1000 that’s the problem. Wanna sponsor us???? LOL. I can see where my $160 cheque is going to end up. :(

  3. Maggie, 20. February 2008, 14:17

I wouldn’t complain if the hydro company gave us cheques for when the power goes out! Alas! We haven’t had a major power outage since the summer of 2003. Guess i wont be seeing any cheques in the near future :(

  4. Kin, 20. February 2008, 15:37

Hubby wanted to get a generator from Mitre 10 for about $300 last week. Maybe chuck the $160 towards saving for one ;) Oooh, aren’t I evil?

Thanks for my bling :D I’m sure the pink will go fine with my orange ;)

  5. StillKindaStuffy, 20. February 2008, 15:53

$160 cheque is going to end up.

Well it was that or shoes ;-)

  6. Gemisht, 20. February 2008, 16:37

Oh, some bling. Ooooeeee, how excitement (clapping hands and skipping around). Thanks soooo much Lightening. And thank you for your lovely comments. They are really appreciated :)

  7. Meg, 20. February 2008, 17:46

No, no track back to pumpkin patch :( In fact, where’s my trackback?! ;)

    Bummer about the power.

  8. lightening, 20. February 2008, 17:58

    That’s right Stuffy - I. WANT. SHOES. :(

Kin and Gemisht - you’re welcome. Gemisht, have you seen my profile of your site on Lightening’s Blogworld yet?

Meg - no trackback????? Oh no, that means I stuffed it up cos I did try to do a trackback. *sob* I think I just failed trackback school. :D Will go and see if I can work out what I did wrong. Let me know if it comes through….

Congrats on the award… and even bigger congrats on swiping that cheque. I’m in awe.

I think a generator would be money well spent, wether it’s $300 or $1000. I say put the $160 towards that and get shoes next time round. You did say you get a lot of blackouts. (Feel free to tell me to mind my own business-it is your money after all).

  11. Sharon, 20. February 2008, 20:36

Go the shoes! Definately the shoes! Pink shoes! I’ve always wanted “Dorothy” shoes and this year little red flats are “IN”! Yay!
I have Dorothy shoes! There were some sparkly ones but Miss 15 eyed me with one eyebrow raised in a kinda “grow up mum” way so I settled for a red bow. But they are still red!

You can do without the power! Food is over rated!

  12. lightening, 20. February 2008, 20:56

LOL Sharon. I have me some little red flats. :)

I need someone to go handbag shopping with. I REALLY want a pink handbag. Had a look while away. Fell in love with one I saw. Only around $400!!!! :( I think it was Pierre Cardin or something like that….

    My wishlist right now:
    1. Pink Eee
    2. Pink mobile phone
    3. Pink handbag
    4. Pink shoes to match handbag

    Don’t want much do I???? ;)

  13. Sharon, 20. February 2008, 22:42

    Umm. What is pink Eeee.
And I’ve seen your red flats, got me all excited and I had to go out and buy me some (I’ll have what she’s having!).
I already have a pink mobile, but I’d prefer a red one, I’m a red kinda girl. Charging bull and all that. And no. You aren’t asking too much. If you have pink shoes then you simply MUST have pink handbag. Goes without saying.

  14. StillKindaStuffy, 20. February 2008, 23:15

I think Lightening means the ASUS Eee, a sub notebook PC.

    See: http://event.asus.com/eeepc/microsites/en/index.htm

At the moment they run a customized distribution of Linux, but by the end of the year will be available with a “lite” version of Windows XP. They are a little underpowered for my tastes, and I find the screen to small to do any extended surfing on.

I haven’t seen them in Pink (I’ve only ever seen them in white)

  15. Maggie, 21. February 2008, 0:39

Pink purses are cool. I have one :) I got it 2 summers ago and it’s quite lovely. Small enough to just hold the essentials and light enough to go walking with. I agree, go with the pink purse :)

    Cheers,
    Maggie

  16. Erin!, 21. February 2008, 4:05

Ooh lol I saw a cute pink purse at one of THOSE parties. The purse looks like a pink corsellete (i think thats the right term, correct me if wrong) with handles and comes with a set of pink toys inside it, for around $80-. LOL i want it just for the purse/handbag thing, but then, people would think I am even weirder if I walked around with that lol. Will stick to my plain black one, at least it matches my new shoes.

Oh and your Eee thing, I saw a smaller version of that in hotpink just today, but its chinese, has label written in Mandarin (i think) and only comes with chinese language packs. One of my friends at uni is chinese and goes home each christmas to china. Not sure WHY he had a hotpink one, other than maybe it was the only colour choice while he was there, or maybe his mother sent it to him, she sends him lovely chinese lollies during the year (he shares, they are very yummy, like brittle caramel with a peanut inside, but chewy as well as brittle).

Oh and Thankyou for the Bling. There is a purple one and a blue/black one now too.

Hmm Generators, I want one of them too, we dont lose the power anywhere near as much as we used too, but we get lots of Brown outs, where the lights fade out and then come back on, but things like the computer and tv/video get upset and have to be reset/restarted.

My father had his house wired up so that he had the lights and fridge/freezer running on two circuits, on the normal power circuit most of the time and then during blackouts (which our area of Brisbane got a lot when I was a kid) the generator was started and Dad flipped a switch on the circuit board so that the generator ran the emergency circuit (which also covered two tv’s, cause you can imagine five kids being a bit much in the dark lol). It was a big petrol or diesel thing but was relatively quiet for its size. My Daddy was/is a smart man.

I want one like that and when i build dream shed on dream land in a few years time, I will be getting it wired with emergency circuits so i can just start the generator (which will have its own little house at a reasonable distance to the main shed house) and flip switches on the powerboard.

Oh Erin! you crack me up!!!! I’ve never been to one of “those” parties. :)

A mini laptop in HOT pink???? Now how cool would THAT be!

Stuffy - yeah, they come in pink although one of the “lesser” models. How’s that for computer speak? About what you’d expect from me yeah? Now, it was explained to me the difference but went right over my head. All I took in was pink mini laptop for $500 and I was SOLD. Well, not totally sold because I haven’t bought one or anything. I thought they’d be kinda good for when we do our big trip next year. I could compose my blog while we’re driving along (well that’s the theory anyway). I need some help working out what we need to set up wireless internet so we can pick it up as we travel though (not necessarily as we drive along but when we’re at different caravan parks). Anyway, back to the Eee’s. I’ve seem some nice looking sticker type things you can add to the white ones that are in pink too.

Now how cool would it be to compose posts for my pink blog on a pink laptop????

Sharon - you mean I’m a TRENDSETTER now????? ROFLOL. Have you noticed that half the time I wear my red flats to church I end up running around barefoot? The don’t breathe very well in the hot weather.

Alrighty, I’m going to put the $160 into our savings account (cos if I give it back to farmboy it’ll get spent ;) ) to begin saving for a new generator. BUT, I’m also going to start saving for my pink bling things. It’s only 5 months to my birthday so maybe, just maybe I’ll have something to ask for this year. :)

They have a lot of laptop bling in Japan - I have some blue and silver dragon metallic transfers that I stuck on my Tablet PC when I was over there. I’ve not seen anything really similar in Australia, but the Japanese are more inclined to fetishize their technology than Aussies are (at least the Japanese in Akihabara http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akihabara are). There are a whole lot of little pink ultra-mobile PCs in the shops of Akihabara. I got a carbon fiber / black leather laptop in one store myself after Mrs Stuffy’s shoe binge in the high fashion Ginza district.

Setting up mobile internet access with Linux based computers can be a bit fiddly for those that don’t have Linux-fu. A lot of mobile companies are coming out with add-on cards or USB cellular modem adapters, but mobile companies tend to aim squarely at Mac and Windows users and you may have trouble getting a USB unit to work with a Linux based mini-pc like the Eee (I can do it, but the process isn’t “user friendly”). If the XP based Eee is out by then, you’d be fine.

    Thank you darlin’!

I tell you you look lovely because you do! ;)

I wonder how long it takes for jewelry to get around the globe anyway?

    Love, alli

ps- that shirt looks lovely on you!

Stuffy - Thanks for that info. It’s worth knowing before I go ahead and buy the wrong thing. :)

Fussy - ooohhhhhh…..heading into town tomorrow to the post office……

LOL well this company does parties in our area, and our soccer teams mums had a child free get together with one of these, was rather enlightening lol. the bag I like is at this link

    http://www.purelypleasure.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=431&category_id=6&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=34

and its apparently cheaper now, was only $69.95.

Still think I would be banished from town if i used it as a handbag lol, but most handbags dont really appeal to me that much. PITY!

  24. Erin!, 22. February 2008, 22:56

hmm last link didnt work very well, try this one http://www.purelypleasure.com.au/product/Horny-Hampers/corset-handbag.php

Oh and hoping I havent offended anyone with that other link, its meant to show the handbag not the other items.
