Ouch!!!
My baby (aka The Bomb) put his teeth through his tongue on Sunday evening.
It bled for ages and every time I saw it I thought I’d throw up.
It doesn’t look so bad today.
Wanna see?
This photo doesn’t really do it justice but he wouldn’t let me take a photo the day it happened.
He was so brave too! Okay, he cried. But he still managed to eat dinner etc.
According to the hospital (Farmboy did call them), there wasn’t really anything they could do.
Apparently tongues heal themselves quite well.
I can already see that. This looked MUCH worse just after he’d done it.
How cute is he holding his tongue out for me so I can take a photo!
Do you think there’ll be a support organisation for kids of blogging mothers one day??? To help them recover from mother’s saying “Oh cool, that’ll make a great picture for my blog. Just wait there while I grab the camera”.
No, I didn’t really say that. I wasn’t even there when it first happened. I did wish I had my camera on hand when I did rock up though. After I’d given him some sympathy and almost lost my lunch that is.

Ouch - poor baby!
Ouch, glad I’m not the only one that doesn’t want to look!
Oh that does look painful - and incredibly bloggable!! LOL - at least you have prioritised it, because some mothers may well blog, throw up and then offer sympathy.
LOL! I have 3 boys and have seen my share of bruises, scrapes, cuts, brakes and bumps, but nothing was more gross than when my youngest bit his tongue really bad like yours! I can sympathize with you!
Sue
Jack did this when he was four. He bit right through his tongue, with only side strips holding it together. It was revolting. Whenever he showed people they’d recoil in horror. Now all he has is a scar running across his tongue. It didn’t affect his speech (though sometimes when he doesn’t shut up I kind of wish it did!)
Oh Frogdancer - that is awful!!!! This did go nearly all the way through. Thankfully his bottom teeth damaged but didn’t cut through the bottom skin so it held together. Did that just heal itself when it was cut all the way through????
Yowch. And, yes, tongues are phenomenal things. I had had a tongue piercing for years and a couple of days after taking the stud out the hole was all gone. It was very sad.
But I can imagine what this looked like when it first happened. The thought turns my stomach a little too. I think i’m glad you didn’t get a photo the day it happened.
Ouch alright. That looks like it must have been so painful. And I am sooooo glad that I didn’t see it the day he did it either - I probably would have lost my lunch too.
LOL at the support group for kids of blogging mothers.
Wincing in pain just at the site of it!!!
Poor baby
You’ve got some blog bling over at my site
The picture loaded before the text so at first I thought, uh oh, someone tried to lick the icing off the cake knife. So glad it wasn’t that, but still, ouch!
Thanks Jayne
River - sorry about that (the picture loading first). I wasn’t sure if the picture needed some kind of warning label.
My son did this many years ago after falling off a slide at the park. There was blood everywhere. When we got to the doctors, he was very relaxed and said that it would heal very quickly and it did. It is not like you can stitch it or put a plaster on it. Scary all the same.
Owww double owww, lol biting it by accident when you are chewing is bad enough.
Horrible I am, cause I saw the pic and went Oh Wow and leaned in for a closer look. Made me think of that kid that fell over while carrying a fork and it went up through his nose and he had these three big puncture marks looking somewhat like a three fanged snake had bitten him on the nose.
They can stitch the tongue, but only do it when really truly bad, as it has such a high blood flow it does self heal very quickly, and also the stitches would get caught in teeth and rip out and make a worse mess, so not worth stitching unless very severe.
THREE of my five have done this. It’s frightening, since tongues do seem to bleed forever! But they do heal fairly quickly - I was so afraid my Monkey was gonna look like a lizard forever, but you can hardly tell he ever did it!
