Memes and Awards

I seem to have had quite a LOT to say in recent times. Usually when I get tagged for a meme or an award, I tuck it away in the back of my mind to use on a day when I don’t already have something I’d like to post about. Given I’ve had plenty to say, I’ve gotten a little behind here. Please forgive me those who have tagged me, it truly isn’t that I’m ignoring you - promise. Smile

Firstly, Robin has tagged me for a 7 random things about you meme. Robin gave me my first blogging award EVER so she’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Thanks Robin.

7 Random Facts About Me

1. I LOVE the colour pink!!! (What was that? You already knew that? How? You must be psychic!!!! I’ve got a post about my love for pink rolling around in my head so stay tuned for the day when it finally gets spit out on the computer screen…..)

2. I’m a girl (What? You knew that too???? Come on!!! Give a girl a break here!!!! Seems like you already know me too well for me to find 7 random facts you don’t already know….)

3. I just wrote a post on Lightening’s Garden. Bet you didn’t know that one now did ya!!!! Did ya????

4. I am 154cm tall. Not all that tall eh? I’m sure that’s why I always used to end up in the middle of my circle of friends at school. Cos everybody could simply talk right over my head. I’m sure it’s also why many things (eg jokes) go right over my head too!!!

5. Netball used to be my favourite sport. In the later years of primary school I played netball on the weekends as well as playing for my school during the week AND then played twilight netball over the summer. I lived and breathed netball and was devastated when we moved and I couldn’t play anymore. I wish I was good enough to play netball now but well….I’m not. I haven’t played much since I left primary school…

6. Yesterday I pulled on a pair of jeans and they were too SMALL!!!! Waaahhhh….. I really need to do something about the weight I lost that is slowly finding me again…..gotta get back to daily exercise (yes, I know and LESS chocolate *sob*)

7. I slept in until 10.30 am this morning. Drug induced I’m afraid. I don’t sleep well on my own at the moment. Especially when I’ve been out amongst people the day before. It’s all part of the depression. BUT, I’ll get there!!!

Now, who can I tag while they’re not looking????

1. Sharon

2. Kelley

3. Bettina

4. Meg

5. Gemisht

6. River

7. Anyone else who’d like to give it a go.

Yes, I know some of you don’t have blogs so you’ll just have to do it in my comments section!!! Wink

I s’pose you want some rules?

Here they are:

Here are the rules:

*Link to the person that tagged you

*Post the rules on your blog.

*Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself on your blog.

*Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and include links to their blogs.

*Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs.

And yeah, I’m quite possibly going to break that last one cos, well I have like a gazillion memes to catch up on so if I don’t get around to letting you know, well PLEASE read it here and get to it!!!!

ENTRECARD ABOVE THE FOLD MEME

Okay, I do feel like a bit of a fraud with this one as my Entrecard USED to be above the fold and now isn’t. For those of you wondering what “above the fold” means, it basically means anything that you can see on your page without having to scroll down to find it. My entrecard is *almost* above the fold now but not quite. I had to compromise a little. So, my apologies to entrecard users but thanks for dropping on me anyway. I do try to repay the favour as much as time allows. Smile

Thanks Jayne from Our Great Southern Land for tagging me for this meme.

Today on my entrecarding, I have visited the following blogs with entrecards above the fold:

Blogging Personal

Sephy’s Platzish

Cellobella

The Shopping Duck

JoeTech.com

YouShouldOwn.com

Saphrym.com

Bun Girl

Now, the idea of this meme is that those listed above go on and list another 8 blogs they’ve found with an entrecard above the fold. Smile I’ll leave that up to those listed, whether they would like to join in or not. Wink

MY MEDIA WEEK MEME

Bettina has tagged me for this interesting meme.

Books - I’m usually an avid reader but this week the only books I’ve read have been 2 Timothy, Titus and Philemon. I hope that doesn’t make me sound pious (they’re all from the bible for those who don’t know). I spend that much time reading blog posts these days that I don’t read as much as I used to. I have read a couple of thousand blog posts so does that count? And do I have to list them all here?????

TV - Ditto on the TV. I tend to spend most of my spare time (and sometimes time I don’t really *have* to spare) online so TV watching doesn’t occur much. I did see about 15 minutes of the Biggest Loser last night (which I didn’t realise had started) and the second half of some show that had “burn” in it’s title with DH the other night. And that’s about it.

Music - I’ve just realised I’m a very boring person to be doing this meme as I don’t listen to much music either. I find noise at the moment drains my brain juice very quickly. Quiet is much better. And I get headaches really easily these days too. I did listen to a CD in the car on the way to town yesterday but I couldn’t tell you what it was. Something that DH had already playing when I turned the ignition on.

Let’s hope the following people can do better than me with this meme:

Lin

Jenn

Kate

Susan

Ali

5 Favourite Posts Meme

Meg and Jenn have both tagged me for this one. I contemplated doing it again but it’s actually quite a hard one to do. If you missed it the first time, you can read what I said here.

As I’m about to return to my grocery budget series, you might also like to refresh yourself on the series to date (or read if you’ve not yet had a chance to read them).
Part One

Part Two

Part Three

Part Four

Meat

Fruit & Veg

I hope you’ll forgive me for being all tagged out (for today that is). If you’d like to take part in this meme, I invite you to do so. If you do, let me know and I’ll come back and add a link to you so you don’t miss out on your link love. Smile

P.S. If you’re wondering why I called this “memes and awards” - I was going to include an award but decided to wait and do that another day.  Doh!  Forgot to change the title.  Embarassed

I’m quite chuffed to be included in this!
    7 Random things about me:-
    1. I’m 55 1/2 years old
    2. I have 4 children, 2 boys, 2 girls, and 5 grandchildren, 2 girls, 3 boys
    3. I’m not fat, just too short for my weight
    4. I prefer country music to whatever is on current radio
    5. I’m a checkout chick,(chook, really, given my age)
    6. I enjoy winter much more than summer, the heat and particularly the glare give me migraines
    7. I love to read cookbooks, but rarely use any of the recipes. I’m a standard meat and 3-4 veg girl, often without the meat, it’s on my plate because L insists, then he eats it after I declare that I’m stuffed and can’t eat another bite.

    Can’t link to anybody since I don’t have a blog………

Thanks for joining in River. :) I thought it would be nice to get to know a little about you since you don’t have your own blog.

Hey Lightening, I was noticing that on your gardening blog (and several times on this site) you’ve identified as an “ex-city girl/chick”.

However, you mentioned in a post the other day thought that you’d moved from a country town to the city in year 8, and you moved back to a country town 6 years after that. I’m curious as to why you identify yourself as a “ex-city girl/chick” when you’ve spent just over 80% of your life living in the country? (I lived in a country town myself for 6 years but couldn’t imagine identifying myself as a “country boy”)

    Care to “eludikate”?

    (yes I know its elucidate)

Watch out Stuffy - I have several English teachers that read this blog! ;)

As for the ex-city chick question. Well, I feel that I left part of my heart back in Melbourne. I had a LOT of good times there and will always have a certain fondness for the place for that reason.

I see the first 18 years of my life as the most formative years and spent 15 of those 18 years living in capital cities (0-9 and then 12-18). So that’s really 83.3333% of those years living in the city (yeah, I had to use a calculator to work that out - wouldn’t Mr J.C be proud? LOL).

But I also see the 12-18 age group as the most important part of those formative years and spent all of those in Melbourne (and quite a bit of time in the city of Melbourne in the 16-18 years) so that’s what I class myself as an ex-city chick.

Even though I’ve been married for almost 12 years (can you believe that????), I wonder if I’ll ever consider myself as a “farm girl” because I didn’t “grow up” here.

Hope that clarifies it for you. :)

When was the last time you were back this way?

I know wandering through The Glen the other day with my son, I felt only a minor connection to all the GWSC students that seem to fill the place during lunch break. I voted there at the last election and walking into the school actually felt quite alien.

Of course it is for each person to define themselves however they like, but I found it intersting that you defined yourself as something you “no longer are” rather than “who you are now”.

  6. Meg, 8. February 2008, 0:02

Oops - I looked! I’ll add it to the list - thanks for thinking of me :)

  7. Gemisht, 8. February 2008, 0:21

Turn my back for a minute and you tag me. For a meme. OK, OK, I’m home tomorrow, so not making any promises in concrete, but maybe, just maybe…….. and I am not going to do it in the comments here because now I have another post. I think I love you :) But don’t tell anyone - they might start a rumour LOL

  8. lightening, 8. February 2008, 9:02

StillKindaStuffy - think it would be about 8 and a half years now. GWSC no longer looks anything like it did when we were there does it? An “ex-city chick” is exactly who I feel I am now. I’m living a life I never thought I would. Which I guess is part of my message (particularly on Lightening’s Garden - if I can do it, anyone can!). Change can be scary and yet we discover we can do and enjoy things we never thought we could. I wrote a guest post on it at Life in the Country

Meg - lol. I’ll leave it up to you whether you want to get around to it or not. Sometimes they fit in and sometimes they don’t. I understand. :)

Gemisht - you’re welcome. I thought you *might* want to blog it but didn’t want to “out” you in any way or for you to feel pressured. What and when is entirely up to you. :) Mwwaaaahhhh - right back at ya babe! :)

  10. StillKindaStuffy, 8. February 2008, 16:56

Hey Lightening - check your spam pile, I posted some links to sat images of GWSC but I think your spam filter flagged them because they contained the name google.

  11. lightening, 8. February 2008, 17:31

Not spam my man! You used a different email address so my blog thought it was a new commenter and sent you to moderation. But I’m nice and have approved you! :) LOL. It’s taking me a while to work out what is what. Is there a new rather large building behind what I *think* is the hall?

Actually there are a whole lot of new buildings, but I think that one is the science and technology centre. I think a whole lot of stuff has been knocked down and then rebuilt as well. I think the photo might be more than 2 years old because there is a massive new hotel where the photo shows a carpark near the Waverley council building and the Glen has been extended since then. (and if you think the Glen has extended, you should see Chadstone)
